Z06 owners, can I pick your brain...I am thinking of purchasing a vette, but can't decide what to get...an 04 Z or a 05 Coupe...from reading the many posts on this forum and talking to friends with Corvettes, I am still undecided. I have heard that in the C5 Corvettes, the road noise is kind of annoying, what do you think? Is there any specific problems/ issues that make a C6 more realistic? With the current incentives, is the 10 extra grand worth a C6?
Re: I can't decide...please advise!!! (vette4cris)
I am not (currently) a Z06 owner but here are my thoughts, since I am in the same position as you are. I have a few reservations about the C6 because it will have a few more complicated electronics for one thing. I especially don't like the electronic keyless entry - my friend got locked inside the Caddy XLR at the auto show because they couldn't get it figured out! Also the C6 coupe looks like it will weigh a little more than the C5 Z06. Plus, the larger wheels (18's front and 19's rear) will mean more expensive tires to replace, and I plan to go thru tires a little faster than normal. It's a good-looking car though, even though the front end is a little generic. Why not get a C5 Z06 now and let them work the bugs out of the C6. By the time you're sick of the C5 (would that ever happen?) the C6 Z06 should be track-proven... Well, those are my thoughts. I almost bought the C5 Z06 last weekend but decided I couldn't part with my trade-in. Love it too much. Got to figure out how to own them both or live without my Boxster S on a beautiful day in SoCal.

There are very few times when you can buy a new Vette at 10 grand below sticker. I felt last year when I bought my Z that there was virtually no chance that the new C6 would be worth 10 to 12 grand more than the current Z.
I will wait to be proven wrong.
No matter what, I will not regret my decision because I am driving a great car right now.
Re: I can't decide...please advise!!! (vette4cris)
I never buy first model year anything. I wait for all the bugs to surface, and then buy round number two. Seems like all auto makers make some kind of mistake whatever so big or small it might be. Recalls or they find just what the public doesn't like, and it gets fixed. Then the next model year comes out clear. I guess we won't know about the road noise until we hear all the reviews.

Get an 04 now and get a C6 when the major bugs are worked out (after a couple years).
As for road noise, my 02 is noisy on the highway but it's actually an improvement over my '93 coupe with the gatorbacks on it. Tires make all the difference in the world on a C4, but a partition will help greatly in a Z06.
Personally I don't find the noise to be that bad because I was already used to it in my last car.

:iagree: I do not think they are noisy at all compared to other performace cars - my last Vette was a '67 big block coupe - it was HOT and noisy.
Re: I can't decide...please advise!!! (vette4cris)
I agree with the above post about buying an 04 Z versus the C6. First of all, as was said the dealers want to move the 04's out so great deals are being made. I got mine for 44200 with the chrommies. Having purchased an 02 coupe for near sticker two years ago made the chance to get that kind of discount off sticker irresistable. The C6's are going to be sticker and MORE when they hit the first year. Plus who knows what problems they will have. I'm holding on to this Z for another year or so to see how the C6's shake out, and what the C6Z is going to offer power wise.
Re: I can't decide...please advise!!! (vette4cris)
If you are really in the market for a Corvette then shop now. I have never seen such good deals on new cars (and used). If you are not driving a C5 now, you should be because you are missing out on a great experience.
Re: I can't decide...please advise!!! (vette4cris)
I remember back in 1996 I was getting ready to buy a new vette. They were being discounted 10,000 off of MSRP. I decided to wait a year later until the new C5s came out. When I went to the dealer in early summer they wanted 6,000 over list for a c5. I started exploring the possibility of a used c4 and found that a used c4 would cost just as much as it would have cost new a year before. Just on principal I would not buy a car for over MSRP or buy a car used for more than it would cost new. Disappointed and discouraged I bought a BMW M3. I was very happy but it was not a vette. Moral of the story, if you wait a year for the next model you may find yourself waiting an extra few years or paying through the nose. Plus first model year cars are never as good as the later model year cars. Look at the 84 and 97. GM is getting better at working out the bugs before introduction but the cars still definately get better with time. BTW I just bought an 04 Z06 :D
All of the above, Prices are very good right now. A C5 is very hard to beat. I wish already that I had also kept my 98 cp when I got the 04 Z. Both great cars. I will look in 06 or 07 at another new one. I really don't want first year problems and most dealers won't know how to fix the C6 for awile.
Re: I can't decide...please advise!!! (vette4cris)
I guess you want to buy one sometime this year. Of course, I already have a Corvette so I can't afford to be a little bit more patient the new. My plan is to get a C6 Z06 in 2007.
Personally, I like the hardtop style better than either the coupe, or the convertible. Thus, if I were in your shoes I would probably choose the 2004 Z06. By the way, the Z06 is very mosy inside. I would recommend a rear partition to cut down on road noise.
