I noticed the '04 Z06 has a square bulge in the plastic panel covering the pillar where the upper seat belt mounts. My '01 doesn't have this. What's underneath it?

11 years and this is still a mystery. I pulled these panels off to remove my rear speakers and it looks like there isn't anything in the bulges. Is this to provide more "cushion" in case of head impact?

Just checked my car, weird! Never noticed before, they're pretty big...
And hard plastic, too far back, not for impact.

The only thing I can think of is they are mount points for installation of a bar to hold camera and/or fire extinguisher for track days...maybe.
