what are you guys running for rubber after the factery tires wear out...do I need to stay with same tire or is it ok to run coupe tires or what?
I loved the Supercar tires it came with and bought another set when the originals wore out. Not only do they stick exceptionally well, they are also much lighter than many other tires. This fact contributes to faster acceleration, just like using a lighter flywheel.
IMO the F1s area great tire as long as it is not raining. I have gone through a two sets of rears,, and one front. I haven't changed to something else because I haven't had the front and rear wear out at the same time. But this set should go around the same time. I am deffentantly going to go to something else,, I am not sure what yet. Michelin makes the Pilot sport in Z06 sizes,, but the are almost $100 more than the F1s per tire retail and I can get Goodyears at wholesale price. Not to meantion I have driven Pilot sports on a few other cars, and do not feel that they come anywhere close to the F1s in dry traction. So that kinda takes them out of the picture for me,, We should all petition Goodyear to start making the F1 GS-D3 in Z06 sizes. I buy them for it now,, and sell the Supercars if they made them. But for some reason they make regular C5 sizes but nothing for us. If GM would have went one size biger we would have such a larger selection,, but no give us the goofy size that nobody makes. I know that didn't help much,, I hate this subject because we are so limited on tire choise.
Switched to Kumho MX tires after 26000 based on recommendations from this forum. Mostly due to the F1's being unsafe in the rain in my opinion. We get heavy rains on the gulf coast so I had to switch.
Kumho's have been great on dry and 1000% better in the rain.
At 15K miles my driver side rear is down to the wear bars! I am going to replace both rears only (stay with Supercar) and do a 4 wheel laser with corner weights aglignment (to correct the uneven side to side wear).
The F1 Supercar tires are great except in rain... but I try not to run in the rain so why change when I only need two tires.
only got 2600 on my F1's  ......ok, I pulled 'em off because I want a better tire for wet conditions.....went with Pilot Sports......very pleased so far
I got 10K on the rears and 15K on the fronts. Replaced them all with Kumho's. They aren't quite as sticky as the F1's but, much better in the rain and they are a lot cheaper. I will go with something with more grip when these were out.
I am in the same quandary that you are. What to get after my original tires wear out. I saw a poll on another forum regarding the mileage that people experienced on their first set of tires. The range was from 5,000 to 56,000 miles.
I feel the F's are excellent on wet and dry pavement. I think the problem arises when you have standing water. Then I agree with the rest of you, they are dangerous. Under those conditions, I am the slowest guy on the road.
I put a set of the Toyo Proxes T1-S in OEM Z06 sizes on the car a few weeks ago for 870 installed. I have put them through their paces in the SoCal canyons quite a few times since then and have almost 2k miles on them already. I love them. I dont see any less dry traction. However I have noticed that they do seem to let you know when you are on the brink of traction more so than the SCs that just let go. The T1-S actually let you know before just letting go. They are awesome in the rain as well. Not to mention they are about a billion times quiter on the noisy concrete roads out here and they dont grab that offset seam that runs right where you right hand tires would be in the lane.
I got about 4,000 miles on rear tires before I replaced them with GY supercars, but front tires still look fairly good... Too be honest, I ran the crap out of the Z06 when I 1st got it... Finally had a 4 corner alignment done & found it was out of spec... I now have 5,900 miles on car and feel the fronts will reach 10,000 miles and if I keep my foot out of the gas, the rears may make it too (ie: fingers crossed)... The car hasn't seen rain, so I can not comment on traction when road is wet...On the other hand, great dry surface traction... Good luck :chevy
