I was wondering if we can get in one thread as complete a list as possible of all the common and typical noises that Z06s have like the valve train noise listed in the other thread.
What do you care what noises the Z06 makes? You can't hear any of them over the sound of your exhaust!
LOL - anyway lets see, mine makes all sorts of noises:
1 - Exhaust jingle on deceleration (sleigh bell style)
2 - Popping/backfiring on deceleration
3 - Marbles in a tin can sound when turning engine off while in neutral and clutch out (throw-out bearing)
4 - Valve train clatter/clicking
5 - Piston slap clacking during warm-up
6 - Intake hissing when stepping into throttle lightly
7 - Grrrrrrt sound when the column lock solenoid disengages when starting
8 - High pitched whirring sound from electric fuel pumps that can fluctuate with the turn signal.
9 - Brake squeeking from front brakes.
10 - Wind noise from crappy weatherstriping around driver's window.
I think that covers all the noises my Z06 makes :D

That sound is completely normal, and its not causing any damage. It's even mentioned in the owner's video that its a normal sound and to not worry about it.
It's the throwout bearing - when its in neutral and the clutch isn't engaged, there is no load on the throwout bearing, and it just sits there loose. When you shut the engine off, the vibrations of the engine shutting down rattles the throwout bearing, and it makes the noise. The driveshaft tunnel only amplifies the sound and makes it more noticeable. Most manual cars will make this noise, but most aren't noticeable, because 1) the transmission is in the front and absorbs most of the sound, and 2) most cars don't have a structural backbone going down the middle of the car that also houses the drive shaft and linkage and amplifies noises from the drivetrain.
LOL at the exhaust comment and while that is true there are some little things here and there that are unique to this car and I was hoping to maybe get that all in one place to help everyone out so they dont freak out.
Paci as for the sound at shut down. Keep the clutch depressed when you turn the car off and it wont do it. It has become second nature to me now that I dont even realize I am doing it any more.
stingray , i did not get the videao
was i supposed to or is it an extra that needs to be purchased?
You should have received a video tape with the car. If you didn't get one, ask you dealer for it, because it comes with the car and the owner's manual. It's a pretty cool video, and you'll definitely want it. :yesnod:

i got a cd with tips when i got the car and the owners manual
perhaps it replaces the tape?
did you get both?
I got a CD and a video with mine. The video is interesting.
thanks i'll contact the dealer
'01 thru '03's got the VHS video. Discontinued for the '04 Z06's. All come with the CD. The manual covers everything, I believe, that the video presents but it is much more graphic, of course.
