i want to lower my car this weekend and i want to know if i will have any problem getting my allignment perfect if i lower it that much???? i searched the site and could not find anything on this lot's of great info on lowering though.
Good question...I've been wondering the same thing because I'm going lower
this weekend too; it's already been lowered about an inch by turning the stock
bolts (no alignment needed). When you cut the bushings I've heard that you
have to get it aligned every four or five months. I sure hope that's not true.
i have not lowered mine at all yet. i figured that if i'm going to lower it i might as well slam it. hopefully someone will have the answer we need.
i never did reallign my Z when i lowered it all the way (took front bolt/bushings out and new bolts it the rear). never had a problem with my other vette either and i did the same thang.
Always re align your car after altering it ie: lowering, new bushings, springs etc. it is also a good idea to have it done once or twice a year. I specialize in frame and suspension and own a 02' Z. Lowered it 3/4" front and 5/8" rear so far with just backing off the factory bolts. My only dilema is the front spoiler rubs everywhere!!!
Yellow,
The correct answer to your question is that there is no way of telling if the car will need to be aligned unless you have it checked.
The alignment settings will absolutely change when you lower the car, even if you only lower it 1/4".
Your car could be within specs now but be very close to being out of specs. A small lowereing could then take the car out of specs. There is NO way of knowing that unless you have the alignment checked. I didn't say aligned. I said checked. If it is checked and within specs and you are happy then do not align it. Should not cost over $30 for the check.
Some folks are lucky and do not get their alignment checked and do not have any problems but why do that?
If someone told you that they were going to go out right now and change the caster, camber and toe specs on the alignment of your car you would say "no way". That is what you are doing when you lower a car. Lowering a car changes the alignment settings in EVERY case.
Don't let anyone talk you out of having the alignment checked. Very important.

Thanks for the alignment information. I lowered it today with the WCC
lowering bolt kit. It looks seriously badazz now. I still have my stock bolts
and bushings in case I want to go back. I'm going to do some light driving
over the next few days to allow it to settle, and then I'm getting an alignment.
No you don't need to get it checked every 4 months. Also if you like the way it turns after lowering you may want to leave more negative camber, but this will increase tire wear.

:iagree: F1s are expensive - alignment is a big factor on how long they last. If you track your car you may want to change it for optimum on the track but it will eat them day to day most times. Checking alignment after suspension mods is cheap insurance for the the tires.
