Default tuff to drive !

They had test and tune here sat.,so I thought I would make a couple runs, anyway I give these guys credit that can launch these z06s ! I cannot get this thing out of the hole, then it seems like I'm on the limiter in nothing flat. 1st run was 13.5 at 100mph ,2nd was 13.1 at 112, 60 ft a terrible 2.5. This is with street tires 13000 miles on them. At least the clutch was solid.I think I will retire again !

You can't expect to go out and run your Z06 to it's max performance without practice. Any car that can fry the tires as easy as a Z06 can be a real PITA at the drags. Just play around with it and see at what RPM and % throttle gives you the best launch. You have to remember, with all that power you don't have to stomp the gas right out of the hole to get your best times. Practice, but for Gods sake, don't give up and retire. It's too much fun!

It took me 10 runs to get down to a 13.1, don't feel bad :cry

Next time I go to the track I'm going to try grandma'ing it between 1st and 3rd to cut down on wheel spin :steering:

Your probably leaving out of the hole to hard! :smash: '
Try leaving around 2400-2600rpms. Dont DROP the clutch but ease off of it within the first 5-10ft. Went to the track only one time with the z06 this season and ran a 12.4 at 116 stock. You can go faster but it will take practice. With the new mods I have now and some headers and tuning I AIMING for a 11.

I agree, practice makes perfect but, I feel like I'm beating the hell out of the car! I'm trying to go out in the car one time, without looking for an excuse to jump on it! :lolg:

A 13.1 is very respectable. How many other cars can turn a time like that? A smoother launch is probably what you need to practice. That's easy to do on the street, just keep it below the speed limit and don't do it so it looks like you are drag racing with other cars around. Just practice in competitive mode and have fun. 50 good street launches should teach you most of what you need to know about the car and your starting technique. They just increased the fine here in FL to a max of $1000, 1 year in jail for drag racing or racing for times on a "course".

Thanks for input, 1st run 2400 rpm and eased it out, hit limiter at 62?good shift, hit limiter again !etc. 2nd run 26lbs air 1800 rpm still a lot of spin even feathering it some. I had to borrow a helmet guy said it was still hazing at 500 ft. Tires are worn some. It was still fun ! :D

I think you ran a very respectable time for your first time out, drag racing is not easy. Some guys have natural talent, but most of us (myself included) have practiced a long time before we turned in a respectable time.

It took me an entire summer to crack a 12.5/113, and I still don't know quite how I did it.

The main keys are to have fun, experiment, and repetition. These cars are a lot of fun to drive, once you get into a groove.

good luck! :)

2200 RPM out of the hole and what, feather it? What kinds of launches wear
out the clutch faster? Thanks.

DAKING,

Wringing good times from a seriously traction-limited, manual-tranny car, such as the Z06, requires seat-time, even for an experienced driver. There are a lot of things to get right:

the launch rpm
the clutch release
the shift points
three shifts, the throttle postion and hook on shift
...on and on.

Might want to read through the thread "Z06 Launch Techniques" in my signature. No claim it represents the best ways, but it has the lessons I've learned drag racing two Z06s.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.
