[Z06] Track Days
road atlanta is in the top 5 driving tracks in the country.
IF you havent run RA before you need to do touring unless you have alot of experience and or dont mind wrecking your car...
AS far as tires go bring some tools and someone will have a jack you can borrow. I used to bring everything but my trailer ws stolen and i sold my truck so i am driving to RA.you can change the tires at teh track..
If you need any help feel free to come by the group my plate is xcler8 I am sure i will know 4-6 zo6 guys and many other guys at the event..
As far as is it worth it ? Well everyone I have convinced to do it has walked away witha smile.. Oh make sure you do the prep work to you z before you hit the track you can go over 140mph on the back straight if you want. Then you go down hill into the braking zone.(tough on brake pads)
Tire wear is subjective to how good you are and how hard you push. Some guys go out and the tires dont even wear others push and slide the crap out of the car and then the tires loose some tread.
you wont want to miiss a great track like RA.... " bring it to the track"

I appreciate the remarks...even the funny ones, and helpful hints/suggestions. I have autocrossed before, but never been on a race track. I'm looking forward to it. I will be attending the 7/04 track days @ RA if anyone is interested in motoring (drive fast occasionally) down with me from Lexington KY.

Your car burns more oil than mine now :smash:

What is the touring class???? I also have done some autocross but never been on a track. I don't have extra tires etc., just my car, but it is new 1,000 miles.
I have two concerns:
1. I don't want to get out there and hamper anyone elses abilty to "go fast" because of my inexperience. Don't get me wrong I like to go fast, but doing Solo II I realized we often think we are better than we are, and I don't think I should be doing 140 anywhere my first time.
Thats why I asked about touring, sounds a little less abussive on the car and mabye a better place for a newbie. I know on a golf course people have little patience for newbies who slow down the game. One reason I dont like golf, no comaradery.
2. Is it smart to drive to an event with no real "extras" ie tires. A small problem could end up with an expensive tow home. Doe s that happen often???
Bottom line what the best way to get some experience before getting into the "deep end"

If your tires are newer they should get you thru both days. Sat in the touring group for the first time guys will not cause that much tire wear at all. You can always rotate the fronts left to right after 2 sessions on sunday to reduce any excessive wear.
I don't know of any place to get tires mounted that is open on sunday in that area. Could be a place, but none that I know of.
I would highly recommend new pads if you are going to drive both days. Fronts and rears pads are important to watch, you will wear the rears out quick as well with the AH kicking in. The 02 and newer Z06 pads will work fine.
Flush with new brake fluid is a must as well. Get some http://www.speedbleeder.com that will make it easy. I have ran the ATE amber 200 fluid with never a problem. It can be found for as low as $8 a liter.

You will need at least 2-3 liters for a full flush.
Gonzo, you will have to run touring your first day, then you can run B group on sunday. Have your brake fluid flushed and you will be fine with that new Z06.
I will be there sunday to run in A group. Ryan will be there both days. If you run into any problems on sat, just ask Ryan for help. He has my cell # if he can't handle it.
See you at the track!!

Since then I've done three other HPDE weekends and the full Panoz school. It's addicting.
