[Z06] Educate me on Z06s
Ive been eyeing Z06s for a while now, I love the performance and overall package. Ive decided(translation=wife said I can get one) im going to look for a clean low mileage 01/02. Id appreciate any pertinent info that the average person doesnt know. Like, changes in rotating assembly strength between years etc. Weak links especially.
Just some quick info to help me get started on my search.
Also how is Chevy with warranties on Z06s and mods in case i decid on a new one. As in, Ford sometimes tries to void warranties on 03 cobras if the tire wear looks too extreme..yeah im not joking.
Thanks.

Read the article above, this will help a lot.
Many 01s had piston ring flutter and oil burning, sometimes depends on how hard you drove the car. The dealer can check the vin# and see if the car had a re-ring done, if not they can do a test and will re-ring if needed.
Warranties are all covered under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Which basically says a dealer has to prove your mod caused the problem. Find a mod friendly dealer, that helps a lot.
Very few weak links, most 97 and up vettes leak a little on the left side of the diff, the fix is some sealant spread around the axel seal, no biggie.
The Z06 weighs less, has less sound damping, and therefore you will hear drive train and other noises, also, when you turn off the car, push in the clutch always, and you will hear a noise that is common, it's a combo of the torque tube and throwout bearing, no biggie either.
Have fun with your search, you picked a great car.

At stock power levels, I can't think of any particular weak areas that are prone to breaking.
If you plan on modding to 450-500 rwhp and above, then plan on putting a forged bottom end in, better clutch, and perhaps better half shafts from the diff to the rear wheels. You may want to consider upgrading the Tremec tranny too, although it is pretty strong in stock form. The shift forks are a bit weak on it however.
Other than that, it's pretty stout. :yesnod:
This way you know the car was'nt abused :yesnod:
Either way, you'll love the car and the folks here are very helpful and
Good Luck in your search :chevy
