I've been offered a new Z16 at below invoice and I have a few questions. First of all, I noticed that both cars in the showroom have what appears to be a molding mark (a raised line under the paint that runs parallel to the hood stripe on the driver's side about 12 inches long) on the carbon fiber hood. Is this typical?
Also, the cars have been in the showroom for a few months and have numerous light scratches in the paint (looks to be in the clear coat only). Will these buff out in general? I ordered my last Z06 and it never made it onto the dealer's showroom and was never buffed at all, so it was as near to scratch free as possible - so these scratches really bug me!
Finally, do you wax over the stripes or just leave them with the flat-looking finish that they currently have?
Thanks for any responses. I really like the car (with the exception of the stripes - pretty cheesy in my opinion) and the deal is phenominal, however I am torn as to whether I should buy this car or spend a few thousand more and get a C6??? Thanks again,
Sounds like you have an opportunity for a great deal. I wouldn't worry about the small scratches as they will buff out. You can wax right over the stripes without problem. I wouldn't let any of the concerns you mentioned stop me from getting the Z16. It is, IMO, the best of the Z06's.
Can't address the raised marked. However, I would NOT warranty this as the paint match and decal application could be worse than what you are describing now.
Second, they are road cars so you will get chips and all from use. So if the scratches are from show room "touching" I think these would polish out nicely.
I got my Z16 yesterday and I dont have the line you speak of. I paid $500 over invoice and got it a hundred miles from me. Kerbeck has one under invoice but not worth the hassel. I paid $ 51,247 and thats a steal for this car. I drives better then any vette out to date. I Zainoed the strips and all. If you buy it look at the sripes real good some have bubbles and the shrink wrap they apply for transit sticks to the stripes and is hard to get the adhesive off.
I agree with corvette ssx, don't worry about the strip decals at all. Apply your wax as you did on your previouse vette's. It won't hurt the decals at all. If anything it will protect them from the suns rays. That's what I'm doing to my Z16. Buy the Z16, don't wait for the C-6. I seen and was all over it at the C-5 Bash a couple of weeks ago. Not really impressed with it. The seats were the most impressive thing I noticed.
