Default Speedometer Accuracy And Armadillos

I went for a long drive today trying to put some break-in miles on my Z. The last few times I drove the car I just didn't feel that I was going as fast as the speedo was registering so I decided to take a GPS along for the ride this time.

To my surprise the speedo was actually reading about .8 slow at 75mph! When the HUD was reading 75mph I was actually going around 76mph.

I also made a point to plan my route so I would have a nice smooth 15 mile stretch of undulating very curvy country road. Needless to say I was very impressed with the car. The real test came a bit later however.

Several hours after dark I was cruising along when suddenly out of no where a HUGE armadillo walked right in front of me. I didn't see him until he was very close to the car. After driving the car all afternoon I was somewhat accustomed to the handling and I yanked hard on the steering wheel:eek:, hard enough to have surely caused me to wreck had I been driving my pickup. The Z drove right around the armadillo in the blink of an eye. Not only did the car swerve HARD to miss him, it recovered in a heartbeat allowing me to stay on the road.

Even as I type this I can't believe I missed him, it looked like there was no way out. I'm very impressed with the car, and even more impressed that I don't have an armadillo splattered all over the front of it. I'm sure he would have done a lot of damage because he was so big. :)

I hit a 5' rattlesnake about 2 weeks ago doing 70MPH. The nice, wide tires must have stretched him to at least 5' 6"!!! It made a nice, loud, THUMP - THUMP, and fortunately no apparent damage to the car.
About an hour before that, I took a friend on a high-speed run on a new stretch of deserted 2 lane highway. Just before I accelerated from about 55 to 140 MPH, a deer ran across the road (about 45 min before dusk) 1/4 mile in front of us. I commented to him that I'm glad the deer crossed the road before we got there. Needless to say, there is really never a completely safe place to go fast!:steering:
