[Z06] track time tonight

I ran my Z at Fayetteville Motorsports Park tonight. It was warm but the track was sticky. Any sugestions and comments would help plus WTF happened on my last run. Here we go (these are in order of the runs too):
60' 1/4 speed
2.10 12.76 112.41 (1st run ever)
2.03 12.62 111.22
2.03 12.74 107.60 (missed shift from 2nd to 3rd oops)
2.01 12.55 111.27
1.99 12.59 112.72
1.94 12.52 111.38
1.89 12.49 110.86
1.88 12.45 110.83
1.94 13.8 101 (changed my drawyers after this)
I ran almost back to back, and was running an old dodge with a hemi and no one would run it. I launched too hard (3900) and got no chirp but warmed the clutch a bit. On the shift from 2nd to 3rd, the clutch stuck to the floor. Wow that sucked major but!!! I did smell it a bit when I came in, but nothing like the imports where doing. All in all I had fun, and will never try and launch higher then 3600 again, as that seemed to work well.
Sooooo how did I do? The mods are in sig, vararam, predator and DR at 20 psi. Everything is fine with the car and yes I cleaned it (wow zanio rules whiped right off). What mod is next? I printed out Ranger's Z06 launch techniques and followed them (the best I could). Thanks for the help and please give me your .02 $. Thanks Ranger!

Your times will continue to improve as you make more passes.
Three things to focus particular attention on, (1) the burn out; get the tires hot. (2) get the clutch out fast...within the first 4-10 feet of forward movement. (3) wind 3d gear to at least 6400 and 6500 is better.
(1) and (2) will drop your 60' into consistent 1.8s.
(3) will increase your trap speed.
Of course, the NC summer heat and humidity will also have a negative effect on your ETs and traps. So gotta keep that in mind.

Thanks for your help. Like the original post, I printed out your launch techniques and brought them with me. I did run an 11.5 with the ac on too oops but I was cool  . Great advise too and like you posted, the burn out is not easy as my car steps out a bit just before they hook up. I do not know what our bars where last night, but it was warm and pretty hummid. The track is running an all night event but I think I will pass. I ordered a carbon fibre air bridge last night for looks and I am still weak in the knees after the clutch dropping to the floor from 2nd to 3rd. Ranger thanks again for your help, setting the bar high and giving us THE text book as well. Thanks again!!!! :flag

About every Z06 racer I know has glazed the clutch at least once. But once they learn the cause, it becomes easy to avoid by just getting the clutch out FAST.
A technique I use to check the speed of my clutch release on launch:
When I return to the staging lane after a pass, I lift the hood and sniff the firewall on the driver's side. If I smell "eau de clutch," I know I am NOT getting the the clutch out fast enough.

Make sure you wind out as close to redline as possible. You should be able to get a better 60' time if you put enough heat into the tires. You might want to remove that Predator program and run with the stock program. If you want to run with the Predator programmer get yourself a real data logging scanner and log the following to a file while making a pass -> MPH, RPM, TPS, Fuel trim cell, OSB1S1, O2B2S1, Timing, Knock, LTFT1, LTFT2, MAF, IAT (optional), MAP (optional), BARO (optional). You should end up with something like this:

All I can find about the wheather is it was 73 with 69% humidity and the pressure was 30.13 and rising (@ 7:55 pm). It was muggy and everyone was slow and waiting for it to cool some. I was shifting short at 6 or 6,2 as I thought 01s fall off in torqe in that RPM. I am going back Sunday and will try the stock tune, and a few more RPMs too. I am sooo close to just staying in 3rd at the trap too but I have been upshifting as I am way careful about hitting the limiter. I am better now with the burnouts and I know I will get better with more runs. I will let you guys know and thanks for the help.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Do not short shift, Small Block Chevrolet engines make their horsepower at higher R.P.M.'s, use all that you can.

It opens at 1300 and I will be there right about then. One of my guys with an F body may be there too. HE has put a new rear in his car since we have been back and his cam came in today but he will be going to CAM this week for an install and a new tune. I IMd you my cell ok? I will bring my cam so I can grab some pics. I hear the freeky Friday was huge there and there was 4 Z06s!!! I don't know what they where running yet, but I will let you know. I doubt I will be any help, as I am stumbling along but having fun. Here is the best info out there :

Ranger is the man and I have this in hard copy too. It will probably be hot and slow and I think I will not run more than 4 or 5 with atleast 30 minutes between runs. Any ideas on that guys???? It will be in the 80s with 30.1 and dropping in pressure...
I reinstalled the stock tune, and it feals a bit stonger, but I have yet to see WOT. Also, what are you guys running your DR at? I ran mine down to 20PSI and I heard the smaller 15" ones run at 15 to 17. I will shift @ 6500 and let you guys know how it goes.
Thanks again all!!!!

Holly s@#% I see your new times, WOW!!!! saw a post about the Velocity stack, um is that a new filter unit for a Vararam? Man you are flying! Thanks for the info and I will post the results tomorrow night. Thanks again!!!
Dave

Wnet back this afternoon and saw MikeP and his Z16. Very very nice and it was great to hang with a great guy with a great car. I put the stock tune back on the car and at WOT, it was a bight and day differance. I dorve like crap and put 3 1.9 60s out with crappy burn outs and put down a 12.45 at 112 right off. I shifted at 6450 and I was in 4th way early and the car fealt much better at WOT. It was 87, hot hot hot and we had 31.00 presure again. The Predator is going back to Ecklers, and my Carbon Fibre Air Bridge should be here tomorrow (Man mike your engine bay is sweet!!). I am having so much fun! Thanks again for your help and support! :flag
