Default Borla Stinger Exhaust

I had Corsa Indys on my 99 coupe and really liked them. I'm interested in the Borla Stinger - How does sound compare to the Indys? Indys were quiet at hwy speed - what about Borlas? Interior noise level?

Mine is not too loud for me but I wish my tires would quiet down.

At highway speed the Stingers aren't too loud if your by yourself, but carrying on a conversation with a passenger is tough. I love them, my wife hates them. Glad I got them

I put on the Quad Stingers on a 03 Z - also put the Bassini X along with them. Installation went smooth, not a problem. The sound is perfect for me. Let me tell you about resonance - a little but hardly noticeable in mine. I also installed Andy's Part along with Lloyd's mats all around. Resonance is up around 1700 - 1900 rpm.

Wife and I travel all around - we can talk just fine in normal tones. There is popping on decel - sounds sweet to me. (By the way we are both in our late 50's)....

The Borlas are flat out perfect for me. Deep throaty sound - WOT is awesome. No rattles - everything tight....

Can't go wrong here....

Compared to the Corsa Indys, the Borla Stingers are:

- Louder when cruising on highway, about the same at WOT
- Deeper sounding - more of a muscle car tone than exotic V-8 like the Indy's
- Have some resonance issues at certain RPM's - Indy's have none - whether you can live with that resonance is up to you.

I've been going back and forth between the two exhausts for months now. I've listened to both on other forum member's cars, and ridden in both. It was a tough choice because they're both so damned nice, but I decided on the Corsa Indy's. I just love that exotic V-8 sound, they're loud when you get on it, yet they're quiet when cruising with no resonance. I like to take long trips sometimes with my Z06, and I think the resonance would get annoying after a few hours. To me, this is the best of both worlds.

I'm picking up my Corsa Indy's in 2 days, and putting them on this weekend at a mod day, along with an X-pipe. I'm also getting LT headers, so I can't wait to hear it with all my mods!

Appreciate the input - I loved the Corsa Indys on my 99 - just so you know - I put an X-pipe on and while it changed the exhaust sound at idle for the good, I was disappointed in the fact that it quieted them down too much. I've seen pros and cons with the Borla's = appears to me they are a bit too loud at cruising speed. I'll continue to search. Do you know anything about GHL?

You just touched a button - difficult to carry on a conversation & wife hates them. I'll likely pass on the Borlas

Well, keep in mind the Corsas (or any exhaust for that matter) will sound much louder on your Z06 than on a 99 C5. The LS6 sounds different and louder than the LS1, and the more horsepower it cranks out the louder it sounds.

The ONLY reason I'm going with an X-pipe is to get rid of a bad case of jingles that my car has that drives me I'm hoping it doesn't quiet the exhaust too much, but I think I'd rather have that than the stupid jingle bells sound. I know headers makes the exhaust louder, so hopefully they will offset any quieting done by the X-pipe, and if my theory is right will result in a smoother, more polished, yet loud sound that I'll be happy with.

My wife also hates the Borlas and the Ripper. I may well get headers so she'll never get near the Z.

The loud drone is awesome. It consumes you with the engine. It's hot as hell in Memphis these days but I've got the windows down listening to the evil howl of the twin tip Stingers.

Hey Stingray,

I have Corsa Indys and I just had the X-pipe put on then removed a few days later. I agree with Bake 1, the Corsa Indys have a really mean sound when going through the gears and that great robust sound was almost gone after putting on the X-pipe. Yes it got rid of that darn motor boat sound and reduced the popping a little bit, but when you went through the gears the engine got even quieter, very weird. Now that I have them off I am very very happy and I have gotten used to the motor boat sound at idle.

To each their own, I just really love the aggressive sound.

The Borlas snap and pop a lot early in the morning.

I love that so much.

Let me tell you about resonance if you have never experienced it for more than a few minutes. I just bought a 2003 Z06 with B&B PRT Tri-Flows. I just came from a 99 with FLP LT Headers, high flow cats, x-pipe and Corsa Indy's.

The 99 was civil when I wanted it to be and down right nasty when I wanted it to be, the B&B are donw right nasty when they want to be, I have to change my driving style to over come the resonance. If you have to change your driving style to move around a resonance to me that's a poorly designed system.

I'm going back to the Indy's. I spent more time at cruise RPM's than idle so I don't really care what they sound like at idle. It's not like I get out a lawn chair and sit behind my car for hours listening to my car idle, I do however cruise for hours and the resonance can be unbearable to the point of causing headaches.

Just a thought, but what about trying the B&Bs with an x-pipe (unless it has one already)? Perhaps that will get rid of the evil resonance?

Go with the Borla’s. I put them on my Z a couple of months ago, they sound great when you punch it and smooth on the highway. If it’s too noisy add a partition or just turn up the volume….

Tom,

Do you have a partition? When I first got my bullets I was not happy with the resonance when the windows where up. It was acceptable with the windows down. I added a partition and now I couldn't be happier, up or down.

I'm thinking about the Stingers for my '03 Coupe. I already have an X-pipe with a Z06 cat-back. It's not loud enough -- but I don't want something that's going to sound like a highschool hotrod.

I've got some mods to the engine heads, and I know a higher flowing exhaust would free up another 5-10hp.

Also, does anyone know if Stingers make it harder or easier to sell the car?

MMI, the Stingers will set you free. Ha! Seriously, they're just what you are looking for to get that aggressive sound. The high school hot rod crowd will envy the sound. Bake 1, reconsider the Stingers with one extra modification - a quality partition. When first installed, I, too, was ready to contemplate removal. Going through the gears I found it 'different' inside and not as easy to carry on a conversation. Once in cruising mode, it wasn't a problem. But after the partition was installed, I found that I still had the mean and purposeful sound that a high performance Vette SHOULD have while being able to talk normally in the cockpit. A good quality partition makes THAT much difference! Additionally, the partition amplified the rear speakers and gave the radio a much richer and easier to hear tonality. The Stingers sound the way YOU want them to; rich at idle, serious going through the gears and positively CR-5, take-me-to-the-trophy agressive at WOT!! And MMI, my sense tells me that if you keep the stock pipes that the Stingers replace, it enhances your ability to sell the car. The Stingers do not necessitate cutting so the modification is easily reversed should the buyer want the original or both exhaust systems.

Thanks for the insight. BTW, I also assume that the Stingers are a little less loud than the B&B Bullets or and SLP exhaust?
