Default Final Tune: Thanks LAPD

I had a final tune done on my '04 Z06 yesterday at LAPD.
My goal was to get as much power as possible from my stock motor with air intake only.
I've added the Halltech Trap.
I don't consider the MSD Plug Wires, NGK TR55 Iridium Plugs or the 170 Thermostat as horsepower making additions.
I had the fans re-programmed to come on a bit sooner as I live in the desert and it gets quit warm. Hence the 170 t-stat.
The tuner at the LAPD is discovering new parameters in tuning as he not only tunes his own 427 C5, but as he has tuned my stock Z06 along with others and keeps squeezing more hp and torque from my car.
I'm posting this info for two reasons.

1. I'm to say the least, very happy with LAPD ( Thanks Shawn! Big Thanks Al!! Thank You for the awesome tune AND your time
2.Because alot of new Z06 owners want to know what can be expected from different mods. This was my starting point. I wanted a no hassle, no worry, no warranty issue and no additional noise as-good-as-I-could-get-stock running car.
Well, this is what I got: 385.25 RWHP---367.30 Torque I'm very happy and the car runs great and gets an average of 31 mpg.

Hope this helps you new Z06 owners

Stano,

GRATE NUMBERS. My Z has those exact numbers but I also have the straight pipe which I'm sure gives about 10 rwhp. I'd be very happy with those. I have lg's, meziere, and underdrive pullys going on next week so I'm expecting over 400 rwhp with tuning. Sounds like L.A.P.D. has their tuning on lock down. Very nice.

Are you going to have LAPD do the tune for you???
Keep us posted on the outcome Mike.
Hope all is well with your mom and again, it was nice meeting you Mike

Thanks Stano. Moms has got a LONG road but with people like you and the support I get I know it will be alright. I want to go to L.A.P.D. for the tune but they arent open on the weekends like andy at a@a is. Its impossible for me to get a ride and drop the car off for a week just for a tune. I'm still trying to figure it out. I'll be going to Andy's grang opening at the end of the month, you going to be their?

stingray454,

We will do our best to work our magic on your car.

The best numbers we got on your 02 Z06 on our dyno the other day was:

367.36 RWHP/355.45 RWTQ on your third and final pull. Not bad for the mods you have.

We will do our best to BEAST it up and make it a different car when you pick it up.

Shawn

Very nice results!!!

Now throw some headers on and get near 400.

I got the lower section of the trap today, won't be doing any tuning with it.

What were the before numbers? I have a 03 Z with a Blackwing, high flow air bridge and coupler, Bassani x-pipe and B&B PRT's. I'd love to see 360 to 365 RWHP w/o tuning. Is that possible?

So just how much did the tuning net you? St Louis is a waste land when it comes to GOOD tuners, sure wish LAPD would open some outlets in the mid-west. Come on Shawn we are starving for a facility like yours.

Tom

Well, considering my car with the same mods (just different brands) made 367 rwhp without tuning, I'd say yes its definitely possible! My bone stock rwhp was 353 to give you a reference point.

Hey Stan,

How are you?

Is there a reason you went with the Halltech trap versus the Vararam? I can't decide to go with!!!!!! Need help.

Hello Mike,
After all my research, I just deceided on the Trap. I liked the ease of install and the filter flowed the greatest. So far it was a good choice.
The Vararam has a good following also.
They all basicly do the same thing and in the end, If I've got 3-5 more hp, it won't make my car faster than yours

Good Luck with your choice

Thanks for the info on the Halltech trap. It does appear to be a little easier to install,Halltech is here in Orange County.

I finally had to replace my clutch, with the spec II...I will have to let the clutch wear in a little. Also had the shocks replaced with 04' ZO6 units. Made a heck of a lot difference in the ride and handling.

Thanks

Mike

Halltech is no longer in OC. He's moving to WI and will be shut down for awhile. I was at his place last Thursday and picked up a stinger from his wife while he was loading up the moving van. He has advanced prostate cancer and will be concentrating on his health for the near term.

Shawn, would it be possible to get my '04 tuned on a Saturday while I waited? I live in South OC and would rather stay than drop off the car and have to go all the way back to pick it up. Let me know.
thanks
