I had AFVETTE's Hurst before he did and I hated it, but he loves it! It was a good if not great shifter, I just didn't like the stiffer feel of it.
So it all depends on you. I am happy with a 1" shortened stock stick with a stock 1968 Vette ****.
I installed my BPP two weeks ago. I love the feel of it. The stock shifter had much too far of a throw to the forward gears. My BPP configuration is the straight shaft with the 5 degree left tilt. It is perfect for me. Tight short throws that are great for 1-4; the throw to 5th requires me to purposely guide it unlike the others.
My only complaint so far is the occasional audible vibration at WOT. It didn't do it with the tighter springs, but does now with the lightest set. I may just throw some more grease in and call it good. It's not overwhelming and sounds a bit racy. I finished my install with a layer of Duramat and has kept the general transmission noise down. It was rather whiny without it since the rubber boot doesn't mate to the new shifter box as well as it does to the stocker.
Anyway, I like it cuz it's great for me. Shorter throw and tilt toward me allows me to sit where my legs are comfortable and I don't have to reach forward to connect with 3rd and 5th. $.02 for today.
Theres another choice, besides the three or four top name shifters and that is to cut the stock shifter, its accompolishes the same thing and is a cheaper way to go...I am also looking at various short thows, and have driven most and they are tight, really tight, even on the lowest spring....I see many drivers missing gears at high speeds and have heard many stories about how stiff these shifters are causing mis shifts at critical moments...Of course anything thakes time to get used to and it is a personal prefrence...... but for me I think I will stay with my stock and modify it to a short throw....
does anybody of instructions on how/where to cut the inch off the stock shifter. I like the feel of the stock but I don't like how far back the throw is.
Just had the the Hurst Billet installed and really like it...you will notice a little more tranny noise but the feel of a quick shift is a huge improvement
I agree with you but cant answer your question since my Chevy Dealer suggested it since I dont like the stiffness of the others... They have a perfromance Dept that will do it.....I will talk to them this week and ask, they have done it many times and will know..if you want to call them and ask yourself, its Kelley Chevrolet here in South Florida, ask for Dan or Angel, or just ask for their Performance Dept, NOT Service Dept.....954-457-8500...they will tell you how its done and the approx cost.....
