I have performance mods to = 445/403 RWHP/RWT. Anyone have similar mods with 3.73 gears? Do you feel the $1800+/- cost is worth the performance benefit of this gear set? What are you feelings of how your car performed after 3.73 install?
I have 370 rwhp/368tq so not even close to you on the dyno but I can tell you I run BFGDR's (315/30/18) on the back and they are a little shorter than the stock tires. I added them at the same time the 373's were installed (probably equal to a high 390 or low 4 gear with shorter tire) and Yes I feel the differance! I can also say early on I was smacking the rev limiter a little more often due to revs coming up much quicker...good luck
I don't have near your power either, but I just got drag radials for my Z. I dyno'd in the 355 rwhp range and had trouble hooking up in the 1st 3 gears. It is geared almost identical to my 99 hardtop that had 4.10's. 4th is not as steep cause the M12 & M6 are both geared the same in 4th gear. My Z turns 2200 in 6th with 3.73's at 80 mph. My Hardtop turned 2100 @ 80 with the 4.10's. I can't imagine what it'd be like in your car as far as traction. What tire setup are you running now? Scott
we are very similar and i have 3:73s...performance is a bit better, launch stronger and 1-2 shift comes pretty quick but for me the best result was drivability. Can drive in 5th gear at 40mph and have some throttle response and 6th gear above 50mph, gas mileage actually improved for city driving but lost 1mpg at 75mph (still get 28-30 mpg open highway). Just easier in traffic...the 3:90s are more popular but my car is my daily driver and the 3:73s are a great combo...but if only concern is for performance the 3:90s are a better choice. As for $ you can get ring/penion replacement for about $600....good luck.
I'd buy the entire unit from a reputable company and opt for the hardened output shaft with the power you have. Plus it will have a warranty. Unless you or someone you know have 1st hand knowledge setting up a C5 rear gear, it's quite involved. Just my experience. Scott
