No I don't miss the Vert I sold 6 weeks ago;seriously the air pollution in my City made me sick for weeks(sore throat and cough)everytime I dropped the Top.The car needed interior & exterior detailing after every ride as well because of the air bourne crap in the air,as well!
I am looking at selling my 1990 Targa top for a Z06. My question to you Z06 owners is, if you had a convertible or targa top before your Z06, do you regret or miss the open top of the corvette or is the Z06 just so great it doesn't matter if there is a removable top or not? Is it worth considering a 2001 coupe over a 2001 Z06? I am just really torn between the open top and the power of the Z06. I am also not too big of a fan of the rear hatch of a C5 coupe, I like the Z06's rear window better. Please give me your opinions and guidance fellow Corvetters.
Not at all, I love having a hardtop, less squeaks and rattles, car feels stiffer and more solid.
I never liked the targa top and like the hardtop MUCH better, so if the choice is between coupe and hardtop, I would definitely pick the hardtop.
However, when it comes to choose between a hardtop and a convertible, I would pick the vert in a heartbeat... Still a vert is not a Z06, so I got a Z06 in order to get an 'S' in the VIN #. It can be converted into a vert...
I have an '02 coupe with removable top and found that I amost never removed it. Either it was too cold or too hot. For me, on a hot day stopped in traffic with the top off is torture. So maybe 3 or 4 times a year (here on Long Island) you get that perfect dry cool day when you won't fry your brains but they are way too far inbetween.
I rarely had the tops off on my '69. When it came time to move to a C5, I only considered the vert and Z06 - I'm just not that crazy about the coupe (hatchback). The vert just wouldn't get enough use here in Buffalo and I do love the look (and power) of the Z06 so that's the way I went. No regrets.

Why not have both...A Z06 convertible conversion and an original hardtop converted to fit.....I have a 2002 Z06 convertible conversion....I modified my original hardtop to be used also, having both tops in place at the same time using the same rear hardtop back glass...I have an electric winch in the garage (or 2 people) to lift the hardtop and leave it hanging then open the rear lid and raise the rag top up or leave it down depending on the day. The car is also supercharged with a Magnacharger.
I don't miss it at all. You don't have to worry about the weatherstripping going bad and NO LEAKS!! I had my 93 for 5 years, top off maybe 5 times. Hated the flex like all the others!
As for the power of the Z06...I took 2 fellow CF members out for a quick spin in my 01 Z06. They both couldn't beleive the power and the ride. Both said their 96's were a "bucket of bolts" compared to it and thanked me for ruining their Vettes for them : The Z06 is an awesome vehicle!!
