Help with Tranny noise
When I fire up my Z06 in the AM to drive to work the transmission makes a crunch/grinding noise about 25% of the time when I shift into reverse to back out of the garage. After it happened the first few times it freaked me out so I wondered if I was not engaging the clutch fully, but now I stick the clutch in to the floorboard and it STILL does this!
Anyone else have this prob? Should I bring it in for service?????

Re: Help with Tranny noise (Fentanyl Fiend)
My tranny is pretty normal and without issues.
But I'd suggest you try this. Before you go to reverse, push in the clutch and put the shifter into 3d and then 4th. THEN put the sifter into reverse.
Read that here and the procedure seems to work clear some issues.
Let us know if this works for you.

Re: Help with Tranny noise (ZO6Les)
Problem is that most reverse gears do not have synchros, hence the grinding. When you disengage the clutch the torque shaft is still free spinning, and by putting it in another gear first it uses its sychros to match the input and output shafts of the transmission, thus stopping the torque shaft from spinning (assuming you aren't rolling) and allowing you to get into gear without the dreaded "crunch." Not having synchros on a gear can make it hard to get into gear if both shafts are not spinning and the teeth of the gears don't line up (top of tooth to top of tooth.) Synchros usually aid with linking the sets up before engagement.
If you do the above procedure (in and out of another gear before reverse) and still get a grind going in then you likely have a clutch that isn't completely disengaging and would need service.
