Default 400rwhp Possible?

Having my 04 Z06 dyno-tuned next week. Curious to see how close to 400rwhp it has.
The mod's are just bolt ons: LGM long tube headers, corsa indy exhaust, hurricane carbon fiber intake and power tube and that's about it. Hurst shfter with MGW shift ****, which is awesome.

Getting the LS1 edit, any thoughts? THanks Dean

I could be wrong but I haven't heard of anyone breaking the 400 mark with just bolt on's. I believe the best I've seen is 397 RWHP.

But I believe it's only a matter of time. Good luck and give us your before and after numbers from the tune.

Thanks Tom. If we can get close i'd be happy. I was driving an 03 Cobra that we got 463rwhp and 532 torque. It was hard keeping it from breaking loose but it was fun. I will let you know the before and after.

Yes, I remember Skip. I am getting Phoenix Performance which is between Harrisburg and Philly, not that far away from Hbg. Maybe about 45 minutes away. Joe Aquilante is the owner and he is going to do it next week in the morning. They specialize in Corvettes. It's best to email him rather than calling. (JFAPhoenix32@aol.com) Looking forward to getting this done. It only has 360 miles on it and I don't want to run it too hard until I know it's safe. Good luck Skip.

I will guess 374 before tune 393, after tune.

Don't get all stuck on HP, it's whether or not you can drive, I beat Mustangs all the time who say they have 475 RWHP, those guys never shut up (no offense). I still can't figure out Mustang HP???
Only worry about ET's, unless you plan on driving around with your dyno sheets posted in your window.

I am with you. The Cobra's are very heavy and the vette's are definitely quicker. I thinks it's more of a guide as to what each vehicle has increased it's HP. I don't do the track just play alittle around here. Driving a Cobra and driving a vette or soooooo different.

Howdy!

For fun you might think about also doing a P&P'ed TB (like a Shanner S2/S3) and an ASP Pulley setup. Not *huge* gains from those, but another 10-12hp would inch you closer to that 400rwhp number!

I've got a LSX 78mm on the way, a S3 TB, and I'm going to see with some tuning, my BW, airbridge, Supermaxx LT's, pulley how close I can get to 400 myself

I think the LSX is probably overkill for a bolt-on car (though I scored an awesome deal), but my intent is a cam (umm, which is actually sitting here in my office), and likely heads at some point.

Good luck!

I thought about a pulley and TB and heads as well. Maybe a winter project if the Z doesn't sell before that. I have to keep it somewhat tame is it is also for sale. I will see what the tuner says next week. Thanks Dean

Which one drives better Cobra or Z?
I know my answer but over at the SVT boards they say different, wondered your opinion, owning both.

Hello;

hI THIS MIKDz06, JUST HAD A SPEC 3 CLUTCH PUT IN ALONG WITH A VERARAM AND A TUNE AND I GOT 365.9 TO THE REAR WHEELS SO I THINK IT WOULD NOT TAKE MUCH TO GET TO THE 400 MARK, MINE IS A 2001 WITH 21,000 MILES ON IT, GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND.

Well, you know the answer is quite subjective. I feel that the Z is more exotic and the Cobra reminds me more of an older muscle car with modern technology. I truly like them both and they are really VERY different animals. I am lucky to have the option of driving almost anything (within reason) that tickles my fancy. Dollar for dollar, there is no better sports car than the Z06

Are you looking for raw horse power or speed? I don't know if consider a new rear-end a bolt-on (technically they do "bolt" on), but there is where I think you could see some real speed gains. 3:90 or 4:10, but I will probably goes with a set of 3:73 gears some time in the future as I don't want to tax the engine too much.

Just my 2 cents.

With just the HallTech Trap and the new AFR 205 Heads on my O4 ZO6 and a tune from LAPD I got 409RWHP and 391 torque
Stock exhaust and cam
Yes, it is possible

I would be really interested in details of any other mods you have. Also your real world driving impressions since the AFR head install. Like where in the RPM band you feel the extra power. Sounds like a great addition to a Z, did LAPD recommend more of a cam to use the heads capacity even more. Super numbers...

Possible, but not likely to get 400 rwhp with those mods.

I have similar mods and got only 380 rwhp after tuning. Average for these mods is about 380-385 rwhp. A few cars without cats and really good tunes and just luck are in the 390's with these mods. But they're more the exception than the rule.

What kind of cats are you running with your LG's? I've still got the stock cats with my headers, so that's at least 5 rwhp I've left on the table versus the Random Techs, and 10 rwhp without any cats.

I would say your only chance of getting close to 400 rwhp is if you're not running any cats.

Everything that has been done to the car is in my sig
We elected to go with the ARP studs and comp push rods.
I also installed 38lb injectors for future mods
Otherwise as I've stated, stock cam and exhaust.
We did talk cam 220/220 but we wanted to see what a stock Z would get with intake and the heads only.
Real world driving is just like the stock Z except that throttle response comes on sooner and the car pulls very strong through the complete RPM range
The exhaust note is a bit deeper and you can hear the valve train but it sounds good, not loose sounding, tight. Gas mileage has improved a tad and the car just hauls butt
I was just at Andy's grand opening and took a few guys for a ride, if they read this maybe they can chime in. ThreeD took it for a spin, said he's going for it and was real happy with the power
Hope this helps you out...

Yes, I am running the Random Tech cats that LG sent with the headers. Hope to get this tune done this week. Waiting to hear from Joe at Phoenix Perf. Inc.
