On my 04 Z06 with 1300 miles the "chrome" exhaust tips on all 4 at the opening is pitting with black spots & is very rough there. Tried using chrome polish but not helping at all. Looks kind of horrible with the smoothness of the chrome gone & the black pitting. Is this supposed to happen with the chrome or is it a very thin bad chrome plate?? :mad
I know the pipes & mufflers are titanium but the Corvette brochure lists the tips as chrome. Either way I don't think the polish should wear so soon with the black pitting.
The tips are polished Ti with a slight chrome plating then polished again, nothing like the solid chrome plating on the coupe's tips. The grooves from the machining of the Ti is what you are seeing and yes sometimes the exhaust crap gets in those grooves. A good metal polish, elbow grease, and regular cleaning are what you need.
Do an archive search with my name in the Z06 section and you will find a few threads discussing the Ti muffler system.
Tried the polish, elbow grease etc. The chrome plating is wearing off & pitting. After thorough cleaning still looked that way & when I ran my finger around the openings it is rough from the chrome plating coming off.

Looks like you need to take a trip to the dealer and see if they will replace them. But, hoestly, I think what you are seeing is normal. The inside lip of my tips is also rough if you run you finger across it. I'm pretty sure it's just carbon build up. Even if you could get it off; it would come right back as soon you drive the car.
I had a metal fabrication shop make me 4 3.5 id polished stainless steel extensions that slip over the titanium pipes. They attach with one small screw and extend the exhaust outlets about 1.5 inches.
