Default Rear wheels different ??

01, just bought couple days ago ..just noticed rears look alittle different. Could this be my problem with what seams like traction control kicking on at 5200 rmps or soo...torque management ?? .. Are 01 different wheels than newer z's? thanks

01 Z06 wheels are unique to that year. They were made through a different process (forged I think, while the newer ones are spun-cast) and the spokes are just a bit edgier than 02+ Z06's.

The rears look different from each other, or they look different from the fronts?

They're different diameters and different widths - I'm sure this is simply what you are noticing....

That does not sound right. The rear left and rear right wheels should be identical...

Sounds like one of the rears is an 01. I think the wheel colors were slightly lighter on the 01's also. If you look on the inside part of the wheel, the 01 has the name of the manufacturer on it.

The stock wheels from my car ('01) have sharp edges on the spokes and dark gray paint. The '02+ wheels ahve rounded edges and are a lighter gray. The '01's are forged and the '02+'s are spun cast.

Hi dan-t -

You say one wheel has a wider lip...that would not be right.

Wheels absolutely need to be matched side to side, as do tires.

As stated by the other posts - the '01s and a few early 02's came originally equipped with forged alloys, all the rest of the Z06 production were equipped with spun-cast wheels made in Italy by Speedline. These later wheels have small pockets cast into the back side of some of the spokes, and also sport the speedline logo.

The 02 wheels have a lighter tone of gun-metal color than the darker 01 wheels, and they are lighter in weight that the earlier wheels.
The sizing is the same throughout the production - with the fronts in 17"x9.5" and the rears in 18"X10.5".

I cannot say how the traction control would be affected by a wider wheel on one side of the rear of the car, if it would be affected at all.
I would expect a tendancy to kick to one side under agressive acceleration with a mis-matched wheel setup on the rear.

Good luck!

best regards -

mqqn
