Default Hard Wiring a Radar Detector?

Where have you spliced in to hard wire your radar detector? In my C4, there was an extra power wire and ground wire that you could tap onto. Does the Z06 have the same? Where would it be located? I know the info is probably in the owners manual, but mine didn't come with one (dealership has it on order.) Thanks in advance!

Pull up the passenger's floormat and remove the kick panel. The accessory wires are located in the upper left hand corner.

I have read where the radar detector was spliced into the rear view mirror wires. This seems a very clean way to do it.

Is it true GM deleted this accessory plug on my '04 Z? I do like the idea of tapping into the rearview mirror circuit somehow, since it's "right there".

I was just hooking up my V1 tonight and I couldn't find those wires. The empty mini fuse outlet in the fuse block there is wired the right way for key on only though.

The only problem for me for the mirror attachment is the thing would have to be always be on (else I would forget to turn it on).

I put mine in the upper left most corner of the windshield and ran the wire down the outer rubber and under the dash.

I spliced mine into the mirror.....no accessory plug on the 04 ZO6....we wouldn't want to slow it down with that extra weight.
One lead to the mirror is a switched 12 v for the electrochromic mirror, so it turns on and off with the ignition. I can't remember which lead is the 12v and which is grnd but there is a post on one of the forums with the details.
If no one comes up with the post, send me an email and I'll track the color of the wires down for you.

Now you guys tell me! I spent a half hour lookin for that sucker the other day. It had to be right where it was on my 99 right? Why in the hell would they delete something like that? Put it into the fuse box...I hate splicing wires.

I could not find the wires on my 04 Z. I do believe they deleted them for the 04 model. I used fuse position 22. This is turned on with the ignition. Works great.

I agree. Dumb decision. On my '03, I was pleasantly surprised by the factory hook up connection. And thought to myself, that's the kind of classy extras you get by owning "the only sports car that matters..."

Or is it now "power, passion, precision"???

Hey C5~Missle, how exactly did you tap into the 22 fuse position? Did you just stick the end of the wire into the fuse slot, or is there some type of connector that can be used? I have an 04 Z and I'm trying to figure out the best (or easiest) way to hardwire my V1. Thanks.

I took a voltage probe and found the side of the fuse holder that had no current when the ign was on.
I then inserted the wire to that side of the holder. I took a 10a fuse and inserted it in place. If a short should occur, it will blow the fuse like normal operation. The now fused circuit only works with the ign on, not the acc. So when you are parked at 7-11, the detector won't be going off when you are listening to the radio. Works great.

There is a special connector that accepts the wire and fits into the fuse holder. Will try and find the name of it. My neighbor has a box of them that he barrowed from GM.

thank you,
By hardwiring the radar detector, you don't have a wire leading from your ashtray to the detector. You can keep the ashtray door closed, looks cleaner, and it doesn't advertise that you have a radar detector. Disadvantages: not many...maybe the detector you have doesn't include a straight cord, so you have to order one and you can't just pull the detector out and put it in another vehicle, unless you have the other vehicle hardwired or have the cord for the cigarette lighter in it.

There is a guy. i think on the parts for sale forum that is selling power cords for the escort 8500 and valentine that hard wires into the mirror with just two connectors. The price is $7 - I orddered one and can tell you how it works when i receive it next week.
