Default Help! How do I activate my new key FOB?

My battery died in my original key fob so I got my second one, but that doesn't work either. It has never been used so do I have to do something specific or should it just work right away? Any help would be much appreciated.

You will have to match the transmitter to the car. Check in your owners manual and it will tell you the process to do this. The program is accessed through the DIC.

In my 98 all you need to do is sit in the car and press and hold the lock and unlock buttons for 10?? seconds and you will hear the horn to confirm the FOB was synced.

Thanks. It still didn't work though. I think the battery is dead in the second key fob too.

If the battery is good, check to insure the contacts inside the FOB are clean and making good contact with the battery. Others here have reported that the tensile strength of the contacts is sometimes weak and they do not make good contact with the battery. You may have to gently bend them to get them to make good contact. Hope this helps!

I never thought of that. Although, the key fob is brand new so I don't know if it would have that problem, yet. On my original fob I had to hold it down a little harder because the contacts were weak. I'm going to replace the battery today, and if that doesn't work you guys will probably be hearing from me again. Thanks for the advice.

You have to re-train your FOB. The instructions are in the owners manual.

Basically you must follow these steps:
Turn the ignition to “ON without starting the engine
On your Driver Information Center (DIC) go to “Options" and scroll through until the display screen is blank.
Press and hold the "Reset" button for 3 seconds until you hear a beep and the “FOB Training message appears.
Press "Reset" once again and it will ask you to hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the first FOB. Hold both buttons and after about 15 seconds it should tell you that the FOB is trained.
