i have heard people state bad experiences with x- pipes, i cant remember which one exactly, but i remember it was more than one brand. they said that the c5 burble was only decreased, not eliminated and that they felt they had lost the sound of the exhaust and didnt seem to gain any power. any thoughts on the validity of this statement?
If you search in the C5 Tech section there are tons of threads on this subject.
I chose not to install an X-pipe with a recent Z06 Catback install because most posts there stated that it will decrease the volume a little. I wanted to increase the volume, but not too much, so the minimal gain in flow that the X-pipe provides would most likely have squelched any increase in volume that the Z06 exhaust gives over the stock C5 exhaust (BTW, the Z06 exhaust is a great mod with the stock H-pipe IMHO )
I don't think I would classify any of the information there as "bad experiences". Most people said that it reduced the "decel popping" and most of the resonance that some of the louder after market exhausts magnify.
X-pipes will not produce much power gain. You need to go with a set of hearders, and "off-road" (catless) X-pipes, to see any signifigant HP improvements in the exhaust area.
I ran a year with no X-pipe and then put in a bassani X-pipe. It was about twice as quiet and it did away with the poping while shifting and quieted the "burbble" IMHO I like it better. There is no proof of performance either way.

I went with the Bassani X-pipe and is has noticably reduced the popping and resonance in my car. Can't say it is all gone, but it is now much more tolerable. Exhaust note still sounds great.

That IS WHAT HAPPENED when we installed an X pipe on my Coras's , we had to take of the X pipe off and rewelded the stock one back on to get that "good" sound back at WOT.
Magnaflow X-pipe here. Did quiet the sound a little, changed the exhaust note some also. Still sounds good and did eliminate the motorboat sounds. I like the change

It might have been me. I had an X-pipe installed while I still had the OEM stock exhaust. It stoped the gurgling and popping on deceleration. Then I bought a Z06 Titanium cat back and found that it sounded better on a Z06 than my coupe. It was to quiet with the X-pipe so I put my H pipe back on and that turned up the volume. Still unhappy with the sound, I bought a Magnaflow system without the X-pipe and that is just perfect for me. It is quieter than stock with the X-pipe, which I don't care to be. I've heard the Corsa system with and without the X-pipe. Corsa needs an X-pipe to turn the volume down and stop the popping on deceleration. Although it does not need an X-pipe, Borla would sound better if it were a tad bit quieter IMHO. B&B sounds good all by itself. Don't buy an X-pipe for more power. You buy an X-pipe to adjust your sound. You can open the hole between the H-pipe and acheive about the same result for next to nothing. It's all up to you and what you like best.
I run a Z06 Air Cover with 12 one inch round holes below the opening. It give me 17 sq inches of opening and cools my air before it gets to the air bridge, which cools it even further. What the engine wants is a lot of cold air. I think I have done all I can do to achieve that objective. Fast air is cold air. Round your lips as if you are going to whistle. Suck the air in and feel the cool. That is what my air box is doing.

Mine still pops like crazy when I get off the gas. No HP or torque improvement with the X-pipe, but why take it off again
i have corsa pace car and added a bassani x-pipe and it got rid of the chris craft sound. i like it better.
when i get some more $ i want to go with hi-flow cats.
