I'm a new member and have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with. I own a 1998 convertible that originated in Canada. Due to the car being purchased in Canada, it has a speedometer that is both mph and kph, and 300 is the highest number on the speedometer. The problem is that the speedmeter defaults to kph, which is somewhat annoying. I'd like to have it default to mph. The other issue is that I'd like to be able to turn off the twilight sentinel, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. It doesn't have the options that most of the "American" cars have. I have taken the car to several dealers, and nobody seems to be able to resolve either of these issues. Any help out there??

The twilight sentinel is turned on and off via an RPO reprogram of the body control module. The only thing that I am aware of that can access the BCM is the GM Tech II hand held diag device. Not sure about the kph/mph thing.
This site details the procedure for using the Tech II:

I have 2001 Canadian vette. For mine once I change the display from kph to mph, it will stay as mph unless I change it back to kph mannually by the option button. On your second issue Canadian car is programmed to have sent. on all the time due to Canadian law. So I don't think that we can do much about that.
By pushing the kph or mph buttons you are selecting the desired function temporarly, If the vehicle is not used for long intervals or the battery is dis-connected then the function will always default to the factory programmed requirement. What we have to achieve here is firstly find our if this function is controlled by the B.C.M. or the speedometer, then comes the "EASY" part how do we change it. Come on all you smarties some- one out there must have the answer.
I printed off the following and took it to the dealership. They charged aprox. $25 labour which was the best $25 I have spent on the car. Headlights used to go up everytime I started the car in the garage and would stay on untill I reached the bottom of the street. Can't remember who wrote the original post but here it is:
Anyone who owns a vette in or from Canada knows that we cannot disarm the "twilight Sentinel" on the DIC,..... But I found the code that needs to be deactivated on the BCM, it will only take your dealer 5 min. to do, then you can turn the "twilight sentinel" ON and OFF as you like. I had it done today!!!! this is what needs done:
go to your dealer, and have them hook a "tech 2" to your vette "it is handheld"
go to options, it will ask if the car has the "RPO Z49" yes or no (canadian vettes are the only ones with this RPO)
enter "no"
Next it will ask if you have options:
Real time Damping
active handling
auot headlamp control
etc. (thier is 6 options it ask for) enter yes to the option you have, hit save, exit. your done.!!!!
then go to your DIC, go to "options"
select "twilight on " hit reset, and it is off!!!!!!!!!!!

MPH sticks on mine once set until I set back to KPH.
You are missing the point"""""" you can play with the KPH or MPH options all you want BUT if you disconnect the battery then reconnect it it will always default to the programmed mode. What we are trying to achieve is to change the programmed mode.NOW do you understand?
