Default Royal Purple

Anybody use this?

Horsepower TV just showed an episode were they dynoed a 2000 SS Camero and gained 8+ RWHP by changing the Motor oil, trans fluid and differential fluid to Royal Purple.

Thanks!

Your engine has synthetic in it, changing the tranny & diff will give ya some Xtra HP. Do it!

Hi Larry,

First, there are a lot of variables in dynos...... +/- 5rwhp is what I believe you can expect if not tested immediately one after the other. Just the temp difference of the engine can make a 8rwhp difference. That said, its very possible that going from non-synthetic to full synthetic in the crankcase could yield 8rwhp difference, but like mentioned above, we already have synthetic, so I don't think you should change out your fluids for horsepower gain alone. The SS probably did not have synthetic motor oil in the crankcase. I don't think you would see much hp gain from the diff and tranny fluid change.

I personally do use the Royal Purple products in my Z06. I went with the MaxGear synthetic in my diff, and Synchromax synthetic in the manual tranny. I didn't go with the RP motor oil, as I can't justify the cost difference for the small gain, if any, I would receive.

Did I notice a difference?? Hard to say. Certainly no worse. The diff seems quieter, and the tranny does seem smoother. I mainly changed because I was getting some chatter with the OEM diff fluid, and the RP stuff comes premixed with the additive. I went with the tranny stuff to get the synthetic advantage for high heat performance. I changed out my fluids at 10K, and Royal Purple was my choice for long-term performance and protection. O'Reilly Auto carries the RP brand, and they are 1.5 miles from where I live.

When it comes time to change your fluids, I would recommend going with Royal Purple. The motor oil change is up to you and your pocketbook. I would also recommend Amsoil, just for me, it was easier to get the RP stuff.

I use Racing 21 in the crankcase
Synchromax in the transmission
Maxgear 75w-90 in the rear

all with great results.

The LS1 engine does really well with Royal Purple's Racing 41 oil, which is like a 10w40. Their other oils don't show quite as good wear numbers as their Racing 41 does. And it's completely safe to run it for 5 or 6k too, even though it's labelled as a racing oil.
