Mass ticketting in ND...
What frosts me is that these silly speed traps are preventing cops from patroling for genuinely dangerous drivers... like the punk kids in a black Olds convertible who were weaving in and out of traffic and then blew by me (and others) yesterday at about 115 in the breakdown lane of Rt 295 in RI. But, of course, they escaped scott free!

I always enjoy reading people bitching about getting a ticket... and how the cops need to do some "real" work and catch the "real" violators... fact is.. if you break the law, YOU are the "real" violator.. and you got caught... Did you ever think of maybe there is a reason they are in that area enforcing the law more than others? Perhaps a kid got killed there, or there have been a number of fatal or near fatal accidents in that area.? Perhaps you should look at the statistics before you go bashing the boys in blue for doing their jobs... and perhaps did you think that maybe the young punk kids in the black Olds don't FLIPPEN DRIVE like that when they are being followed by a cop!?!?!?!?!?! Just cuz they are doing it in front of you, doesn't mean they do it infront of a black and white... and if, like you, they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.. BREAKING THE LAW.. they will get a ticket for it...
People just need to think about other issues besides.. "that cop ruined my fun, doesn't he need go go get REAL violators!?!"... First off, the cop is doing his job, without cops strictly enforcing traffic... it would be chaos on the streets.... For example.. you have that young punk in the olds driving like crazy.. why isn't he abiding by the law? cuz he is a young stupid punk that doesn't care about authority... Now imagine that there were no cops enforcing traffic violations, even small ones... EVERYONE would have that same mentality... "I aint gonna get pulled over for it... Who cares if I didn't use my turn signal.. who cares if I go 3,5,10,20,50 mph over the speed limit, who cares if I don't put on my current registration tag, who cares...."
You get my point... cops enforce small laws for a reason, so everyone doesn't just blow off the small laws that you may think are insignificant.... I GUARANTEE that that cop could have given you a ticket for that violation and MANY more that you think you don't have... but he didn't.. and your STILL bitching about it... you know cops don't pull people over for no reason... they pull people over (after they see a violation) for:
a.) to give a ticket for that violation
b.) find out who you are and why you are in the area, give a ticket
c.) find out if your up to no good and perhaps that car you're driving is a stolen vehilce, give a ticket
d.) clean up the streets and maybe take someone to jail for a warrant they have been avoiding going to jail over, give a ticket
Wow
... ... sounds like someone had a bad day.I other words too bad you got caught. That's part of the law too... you only get a ticket if you get caught some how.
I guess you actually had to be there to see how utterly absurd this particular "speed trap" was and who was being pulled over and why. If these folks are society's most dangerous criminals, we must be in very good shape!
In my little stealth econobox commuting to and from work through seven small, heavily policed towns, I am perhaps the slowest and most careful driver on the planet (hence no need felt for a radar/laser detecting device). You don't know that, of course, but I do. I figure that I've gone through at at least a dozen speed and traffic traps per week for 16 years now. This was my first "speeding" stop in over 25 years. And I wasn't complaining... just responding to a request for the details.
Have a great day!

As his prey approaches he stays as still as a rock, waiting for the perfect moment... he sees his chance... pulls the trigger on the radar... YES!!!!!!! YES!!!!!! I got him... another fine day, life is good .... 3 MPH over.
Sort of a Don Knotts-like character??? Close, but no cigar! Just an old cop having coffee and donuts in his cruiser... with his newspaper and inside-mounted "always on" radar. This was not exactly a high-tech FBI sting!
He actually looked more like an older retired or auxiliary cop than like a real cop... which could explain the warning rather than a complaint. Funny thing was that I spotted him a good quarter mile away right after I made my turn and made darn sure I was going *stone* slow. But he stopped me anyway... along with every other car coming down the road behind me. If only an AP photographer had been there!
Like I said before... I just thank God Almighty that it wasn't my day to take the Vette to work!!!

They can get you with VASCAR, etc on the interstate at 8 mph over the limit but you stand a chance of beating it. 9 or more and you won't beat it.

The amount of the fine may not be considered excessive by some of you, but the highway patrol up here seems to be out to get Corvettes, especially red ones. I make it a practice to set my cruise only a few miles above the limit because if I am over 10 mph above it, chances are good to get stopped. I can drive faster with my old Olds, and they won't even look at me.
You're not paranoid if they're really after you!
