Default Coupe Owners with Ventmasters

I purchased a set of Ventmasters off the forum some time ago and recently found them in my closet. No install instructions can anybody help me out? they are the little brackets that allow the coupe's hatch to remain open a bit to allow for better airflow...

I bought mine used with no instructions, and it took a little while to figure them out...even after using them many times last year...after winter ended and spring hit, they were like a jigsaw puzzle all over again.

It's a simple twist action to snap them in place once you figure out how they are oriented. If you can wait an hour or so, I'll take some pics of them being installed, and what they look like in place.

Better airflow and questions by gas station attendants asking if I knew that my trunk wasn't closed.

Pics would be great! I really struggled with the spring on the gas peddle

As promised...these are kinda dark, but I think they will help you.

I started with the left (drivers side) here...

This pic shows me just holding the clip in showing the orientation to the latch:

I then put the clip in starting on the inside (towards the front of car) surface of the latch hole:

Then once hooked on the inside edge, rotate the clip around so the hook is outside (left side) and facing the hole in the latch, it should then clip in the hole with relative ease.

The left side hook is in place...pic taken from the left side of the car looking in towards the hatch:

The right side is about the same, but start to hook the clip from the back (rear) of the latch hole.

Then pivot the latch around towards the right side of the car to snap the front side of the clip in the hole. (no pic).

The finished product:

I don't know how much these pics will help, but I will say it should take NO force to install them. If it seems like they need it, you don't have them the right way. The left and right sides install in opposite fashions. The clips are identical (I think), and can be used on either side. Once clipped in place, the hoop of the clip should be in-line with the flat surface of the latch. It will be very obvious when they are installed right.

Lastly, one thing I did find when using these, is the hatch doesn't have the tendency to "pop" open, when pushing the dash button...it clicks, but doesn't release. I only use the keyfob remote while pulling up on the hatch when using these.

Back a while ago I came up with a design for the c4's and had great success with it. Maybe now that I am a C5 owner I need to research a new design for these shotty designed things they are selling.

If you search Kevin McGrade hatch vent you will find a boatload of infomation.

STEP 1

Place VENTMASTER over stock latch with the prongs in top position. Label appears on the left side.

STEP 2

Rotate VENTMASTER clockwise so both prongs wrap around the stock latch. Label appears facing you.

STEP 3

While closing the window, adjust VENTMASTER to fit into lock.

CAUTION

VENTMASTER label MUST be facing you.

OK guys that is word for word from my instructions. I am enjoying mine. I got them installed and they are a nice addition.

http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.644

you can get a view of them by viewing the above URL. Cut and paste it if necessary into your browser.

Editorial. I got mine installed by looking at the above photo and keeping focused on the end result and then backing up. I also noted the admonition to keep the label on the left when the VENTMASTER was placed perpendicular to the stock prongs and made sure that when installed the LABEL was facing me toward the rear of the car.

It ain't easy and it is a little tight but they work

I think the design is ingenious, they're simple and work well...it's just the fact they sell for $75 that is ridiculous.

I bought mine used for $35...they are worth that, but I would never pay retail for them.

I do not diagree about the price. If you are fortunate enough to find some used jump at it. They are made of very very heavy steel. You feel like a weakling trying to put them on for the first time. Keep the label on the left and place the unit perpendicular to the latch "hook" and when you are finished make sure you have only rotated them 90 degrees and that you have moved the label from being on the left to being on the rear FACING you
