Default Outside Temp Sensor...

On 90+ degree weather here in Miami the temp reads 65. Does anyone know how to correct the false readings? Is there a fuse that I can change or reset? Thanks.

Im sure the sensor is bad, mine was. It is located on the right side in front of the rad. and AC coil. You can see it very easy with the car raised alittle.

You might also check the sensor connector for corrosion.

I can just pull the sensor? Can it be accessed from the top under the hood? Or is it reachable only from under the car? Thanks?

Lex, you can get to it from under the hood. Look on the pass. side, just to the right of the lower area of the air filter box. It is very low down. Give it a try and you will see it.

About a year ago I had beers with an engineer who helped build the temp module in the C5. I asked him how it could read "this" when I know it's "that".

He kinda chuckled. And went into an explanation of how they taught it to remember the last actual ambient temp when the car was moving. The computer takes into account the added temps of asphault and sitting in one place in the sun for a time parked. It seems to compensate for those situations. But it always starts out at the last recorded ambient temp.

So, if your seeing 65deg in the morning, drive it 2 miles, park it for 3 hours when the actual ambient temp goes to 90, and get back in the car and call right away, maybe you need to move around a bit and let the computer catch up.

He was very specific and it answered a lot of my questions which were much the same as yours.

But if after a time it doesn't calibrate as you move on down the road, perhaps the above posts are right on point. I'd ask the dealership to replace that temp sense module.

Mine used to be pretty accurate, but recently started reading way off. I may try to replace the sensor and/or harness. Lex, let us know how it goes.

I had been putting off fixing this because I thought I had to do it from under the car. After reading this post, it is easily accessible from above. My harness looks ok, so I guess i will just be replacing the sensor. Is the sensor the entire black plastic that has a push screw to attach to the undercover or is the sensor inside this black plastic thingy?

I'm reading this with interest, because I've got the same problem.........on an eight month old '04! What blows me away here is that I've also got a '99 'Hoe and a '00 Denali that have never had a problem with the temp sensor. WTF?!

Be careful in looking for the part. There is an air intake temp sensor, but this part is the ambient air temp sensor. Part 10248414. $4.07 at gmpartsdirect but $7.95 shipping. I may go to the dealer and see how much it costs.

From my recent experience, there is one other thing to worry about with this sensor. My A/C was acting up very badly recently and acted just like the ones on which the front seal had gone out on the compressor, which some members had related here. I was all ready to swallow a very expensive repair and the tech at Purifoy Chevrolet (yet another major kudos to an awesome dealer that specializes in Vettes and takes their owners' concerns seriously) checked it all out and found that my only problem was this sensor. He replaced the sensor, about ten bucks, and all is right with the world again!!!!!!

Thanks again Purifoy!!!!!! I will never go ANYWHERE else for service on my Baby!!!!!!!!

Looks like you just need to replace the sensor. It is located up under the opening for the radiator under the front fascia on the passenger side.

Just replaced mine this past weekend. I ran into the same problem with "rockauto". They wanted $8 for the part and $8 for shipping. I stopped by my dealer who had it in stock for $8.14. (The part # above is correct). It's an easy replacement, took 10 minutes.
You can see the sensor from above. I was able to reach my arm down from above to disconnect the wires. Then reached under the grill to push the retainer pin up from below. Clipped the new sensor into the wires and pushed in the new retainer pin.
All is fine now!

I'm sure your warranty would cover it. I really enjoy working on my car, so I would rather spend $8 to fix it myself than to spend all the time to put it into the dealer and have someone else do it. (You never know what happens to cars in shops these days).

Same here, my A/C is acting up. Won't come on at times and the temp screen is blank..no outside reading shown or inside reading. Then at it's own will it comes online and A/C will work and all the functions in that area will work fine. So I'm running out this morning and get the sensor to replace it. Price is $8.95 at dealer here. So that is worth the first step in fixing this problem...thanks for the info.

Not really true. In my garage the display temp will read exact as verified by a calibrated digital thermometer. After driving say 15 minutes, the display reads 7-10 degrees hotter than ambient. I have to believe the hot air from the pavement is causing this error. This is with 110* ambient temps.
