I've had my new Z coming up on three weeks now, and I've had no problem with the CAGS skip shift. Only once has it gone to 4th when I was driving it like a buick. Even when I don't get on the revs and it seems like I'm driving normally I have no problem shifting to second. I'm curious what does the tach have to see to allow a 1st to 2nd shift? Do others out there have the same situation? or is it I just have a heavy foot.Right now I don't feel the need for the bypass. Ragtop
Spedo driven: 15 to 19 mph and less than 21% throttle. I like to go from 1st to 3rd during sedate driving. The 1st to 4th does not give the rpm time to sync, so the car can lurch a little bit when you let the clutch out unless you change your normal timing for letting the clutch out. It is so simple and cheap to defeat the CAGS it's worth doing. I did not realize what a pain mine was until I disabled it. I would rather spend 30 bucks and make it go away than pay the gas guzzler tax.
I killed it just on principle. I don't drive automatics as I am a control freak and want to shift anywhere I please.
Nobody from NHTSA or EPA or anyone else is going to dictate how I drive my manual transmission, even if CAGS never bites me.
I know it was probably the best way Corvette engineers could come up with to avoid the guzzler tax. I applaud them for installing it with a wink and a nod, to allow us to bypass it so easily!

I doesn't have to rev very high...3000rpm at most.

What kind of MPG are you getting for city driving? That's the best measure of how leaden your foot is.
The CAGS defeat is the first mod I put in C5s because I want the option of short shifting the lower gears; esp in left turns, if I choose to. Even though you may almost never trip it; when you do (often because of distraction or sudden braking in front of you), you're stuck in 4th at a low speed...not a good situation if you need instant acceleration to avoid Sally Cellphone who has just faked you out into thinking she's actually going to stop for the red light.
Not when it can be fixed in 5 minutes for 20 bucks!
