Just yesterday, we ordered a 98 C5 Coupe, Torch Red on black, auto, sport seats, both tops, and F45 suspension from Carmax. We have not seen the car in person and all we have is a written description from the dealer in Illinois from which the car would be transferred. The description listed the car as being flawless and "near impossible to find a 98 in better condition". It also only has 14100 miles and I do not know what other options it has. They said it does not have a CD player (unless they couldn't find the external changer in the hatch)
A woman locally we had been dealing with on a 1999 C5, Torch Red on tan/gray just sent message to us today that she would come off of her price to 25K (which is how much we are paying for the 98 before TTL). It has 31K miles, Z51, sport seats, auto, CD player, seat memory, glass roof (did not see body colored unless she had it somewhere else in the house), and aftermarket chrome exhaust tips. I do know this car is currently a 2 owner. However, I did see a pretty deep scratch on the hatchback.
Should I try to cancel the Carmax order (which has not formally been placed yet) to get a locally owned 99 Z51 which I have seen personally? I do still have a couple minutes before Carmax is open....
Look at the Carmax car and then make up your mind. I know you'll have to pay the transfer fee if you don't take it, but that's the gamble you take when transfering a car with Carmax.
Oh yeah, I forgot. The C5 from Carmax could take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to be delivered, but he said the average time is around a week. We need a car ASAP because one family member has not had a car to drive for 2 weeks now.
The Z51 Vette is owned by a private party. The woman was originally asking 29K and not budging on it, so we walked away. I know Carmax has some pretty high standards on their car because they rejected to buy my Camaro when getting an appraisal due to my wield-in SFCs and a minor parking lot bump-in that had been repaired (they saw overspray in the hatchback ) The description of the C5 from Carmax IS IN WRITING so that gives me a little advantage in case if they are trying to screw me over They could not tell me which gears the 98 had, but I will look at the dealer codes as soon as it comes in.
