Default horn not working - help!

one minute the horn is working fine. after synchronizing an extra key fob, a little while later after the car was being driven, horn doesn't work. could it be that when re-setting the fob (and the horn was working fine beforehand, because it beeped twice indicating the fob was synched), it messes with the horn? is there a process to re-set or re-synch the horn?

anybody familiar with the replacement of the horn relay under the pad in the steering wheel? dealer said it's a common problem of failure. but, when i went there, it was working just fine so they didn't open it up.

thanks for any tips. would be great to have the horn back...

I heard that the replacing the horn relay under the steering wheel pad is very expensive since it part of the design of the airbag system.

Hopefully so one else will jump in on that for me.

dealer told me it'd be like $75 or so, at most, and that he's done a ton of them!!! when i brought the car in it was working fine, so he didn't tackle it.

If it's the horn switch itself that's not working you'll have to replace the airbag. Maybe if you've got a friend with the same airbag you could swap to see if it's the switch in the bag. Let's hope that's not the case. Good luck and let us know. There was another forum member that got dinged $750 for a new bag. If there is a relay in the bag that's to fault let us know. Inquiring minds have to know.

that's not what the dealer said. he said there's a small relay right under the steering wheel horn touch pad that jiggles loose every once in awhile, and that it's a minor repair. said it typically takes an hour of labor, and has done many of them.

perhaps that other forum member who had to get a new bag had other issues going on separate from an intermittent horn?
