I hear a clanking noise while I'm backing up. I also hear it when I'm going forward, but not as bad, and it appears to go away.
I was told that it may be the balancing weight on the drive shaft?
Can these be possible? If so, How do I fix it?
If not, what else can it be? I hear it more when I turn to the right than to the left while going forward, but I hear it all the time while backing up. It appears to be constant depending on how fast I am going, therefore, the balancing weight hitting something makes sense.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Suggestion - get the car onto a lift and attempt to duplicate the problem.
If the sound is coming from the rear, check the CV covers (sometimes these are damaged by installers when changing out the rear end or exhaust).
Keep us apprised of what you find - good luck and hope it is not to serious.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
I recently purchased the car and the factory installed 373's in it and the previous owner had a Corsa exhaust placed on it. The two possibilities that you mentioned.
Also check out the axle nuts behind the wheel's center caps. There was another post last week on this. It said to spray some WD-40 or similar product in there and re-torque. It also said that when sprayed rust residue came out. So it'll make a bit of a mess when done but it almost sounds like we should all probably do this as a preventative measure. Keep us posted.

This has come up several times, and a little lube at this point (try to use spray grease and NOT WD-40) has worked.
