Default clear coat damage

A friend of my wifes was spaying bug spary the pump kind that is 100% DEET and I told her to go outside not around the vette. Next morning I go out to the car and over the quarter panal and the hood is spots that don't come off. THE DEET ATE TROUGHT PART OF THE CLEAR COAT. My paint guy is going to have to wet sand it and possibly do some paint work. Just had to vent. So guys keep bug spray away from the cars and dumb friends of your significant others.

Ask her to pay. Especially after you asked her to keep away from the car. Hope you can get the paint fixed at a reasonable cost.

That's the pits. Puts you in a bad way...let them know there was some damage, maybe they'll pay up or at least help.

I'd call the insuance company that you insure your house with and see what they have to say.
They typically cover vehicle damage if it is parked on your property and no one was behind the whhel.
Good Luck.

It's because of horror stories like this that I keep my vette covered when I'm not driving it. And people think I'm strange . . .

Best of luck in the repair. You're taking it a lot better than I think I would.

I am sure you have what is called Comprehensive insurance coverage on your car. I have mine without a deductible. You could have a deductible so check. This coverage is different from collision coverage. Comprehensive coverage covers for theft and vandalism. This is neither of those but note the term comprehensive . I would be shocked if it is not covered. The kicker is how much to repair and if you have a deductible to satisfy. That is the easy part. They of course will want to know the name of the person who did the spraying. That is a political situation that only you are best prepared to handle. Her Homeowners insurance (if she has a home and is insured) should pay for the repair. Your company if they repair it will attempt to collect from her and or her insurance company. Good luck. The only coverage you will have is your auto not your homeowners.

I would definitely tell the person what happened. And if they weren't willing to contribute to the repair, they wouldn't be welcome in my house from that point on. Lack of respect for what you said and then to not pay for their mistake. BYE BYE for you!!! My .02

I understood that the friend was at the Vettes owners home, I assume spraying herself in the garage before going out, and after seeing what she was doing he asked her to go outside to spray.

Oh, and in my REAL world my real friends don't damage my cars, or they quickly become ex-friends!

:ack Man that's a real bad deal you got there. Some people just don't understand how bad bug spray can mess things up. I hope your wife doesn't lose her friend over this and your car gets fixed better than new
