Posted this in the tech forum didn't get but one response has anyone replaced a broken rear wheel stud by drilling a hole in the dust cover and hammering out the broken one. This seems to be the least expensive way or take it to the dealer. I just hate going to the dealer for a $3.00 part and $200.00 labor charge.
I replaced three of mine and investigated every option. I ended up doing it myself and it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. The hardest part was getting the caliper bolts off which are torqued to 125lbs with red locktite. If you can get the car in the air high enough to get a breaker bar on it it wuld be easier, or if you have an impact wrench. My ball joint spindles had allen wrench holes in the ends so all the talk about ball joint seperaters was unnecessary.
Drilling the hole in the right spot, while on the car, seems to me to be very hard to do, plus you've now introduced a hole for rocks and debris to enter into the parking brake mechanism and create problems.
There are some good threads on the how-to's in the tech section, and may be a thread or two in here too.
