Default Yellow Headlights?

Ok as most of you know I'm building a C5-R replica and I need a little more help.

Yellow headlights... I know it sounds weird but as you can see in the photo below that the headlights are clearly yellow. (Much more yellow in real life)

So I have a few questions I need to ask.

1. Are they legal in California?

2. What is the closest fixed headlight kit to the 2003 C5-R?

3. How would I get that yellow tint?

So I was thinking ether getting yellow bulbs... (not amber) do they make those? and/or tinting the clear plastic shield yellow. What do you guys think?

As far as visibility at night, I mean the race cars have them and they go much faster then what I do on the street. (well, most of the time) So how bad can it be? I mean dealing with visibility and laws... would it be possible to have the yellow bulbs in the headlight cone, and normal white driving lights in the highbeam cones but have them be lowbeams?

All feedback is welcome!

Why don't you just phone the DMV or cops to see if yellow lights are legal or not. Then if they are get a copy of the law to say that they are and keep it with you all the time because you probably will get pull over.

Do you happen to know what number to call to get a hold of the DMV or cops?

No because
Where I live I just phone the number of the local police detachment and ask for the traffic section when I was inquiring about a front plate.

Well, I'm not Canadian. Zilla. Sorry bud. Looks like it may bot be legal. But I will say this much, these types of laws are always open to interpretation and it's the LEO's discretion whether or not a citation is necessary. So to re-cap, the answer is a definate maybe. Hope this kinda helps.

I'm in Cali right now, and I see the occasional car with yellow lights, and many with yellow fog/driving lights. Seeing as how the French started the yellow light thing to reduce glare, and how yellow lights look pitifully dim to onlookers, I don't see why a cop would even bother you.

I'm sure it's just a difference in bulbs. If not, you should be able to treat your lamp lenses. If I remember right, a true French-type light fixture has a type of polarization to block some color...blue I think.

They are not legal as headlights anywhere in the US - as fog lights yes, but not as headlights. The US DOT sets the guidelines regarding these things so that the manufacturers will follow suit. If they were legal, then they would most likely be an option that the manufactuer could offer.

Good luck!

Aww heck... 3 different answers. What to do! Ok ok... I'm gunna do the yellow lights no matter what. Any ideas how? Tinting... bulb color? Also my big thing is being able to have low beams in yellow and low beams in white in the high beams slot. Is it possible to do this?

I lived in France for 116 months and drove with the yellow headlights and it was a pain. Nightime driving on non-foggy days means you are out driving your lights most of the time. Not my cup of tea.

And if you drive with them in the states, expect the LEO's to have a field day and they should and you will pay.

You might reconsider duplicating that #8 C5R. It is no more.

You may want to try PIAA or Mad CATZ, I'm sure they make yellow bulbs for your vette and are known to be pretty bright as well!

Check with Tuan Le "Lighthouse" ... he's a supporting vendor. Do a PIAA search, I'm sure his name will pop up.

I have yellow 9006 bulbs in my car right now I also have yellow fogs

I got the idea when I saw the C5R's on TV had them about 3 months so far no problems.
Email me and I will send you the link to the place I got them from.

Most people I meet hate them but you can really pick me out of a crowd here in the land of blue headlights!

One more thing the PIA's are VERY yellow (like a traffic signal) I bought them and used then for a week and gave them to the kid nextdoor thay retail for like $79.99 the one's I have now are yellow/gold and cost around $39.99? I think I cant remember. They look as close to the color of the C5R lights as I could get

Thanks a bunch. E-mail has been sent! If you could give me the bulb numbers for both headlights and fogs, that would be great! Thanks!!
