Mag Red Repaint??

In addition I had a number of 'chips' on the front facia and headlight covers, so this was a good time to take care of all of these areas.
I spent a lot of time meeting, and discussing, with various local painters the options and possible 'non- matching' issues that could occur.
Each painter had a number of opinions, but all told the same story - they would:
-blend the painted areas into other areas that were not affected, and
-do the three (3) stage process as if this were not done I would be dissatisfied with the results.
Eventualy I uses Stewarts (in the DFW area). I have had most people tell me that after looking at the painted areas and the rest of the Vert they cannot tell where it was painted.
To day the least I am completely satisfied.
Recommendations - talk to others in your area for recommendations of a painter that has a good ' track record'.
DO NOT go to the lowest bidder - more than likely you'll not be satisfied with the results.
Ask the painter to see other 'jobs' they have done on multi- stage paint. This will assist in determining your analysis of his/her capibilities.

I finally found a place in Tempe, AZ that had painted at least 3 vettes with MR and I trusted them to try it. They did a perfect job including matching the texture from the factory. (That is the tricky part). Unfortunately for Allstate, it cost $700 for one door!

I finally took it in to City Chevrolet in Charlotte for an estimate two weeks ago. They said that even though there are seams there (except for where the door opens), Mag red is very difficult to paint and they would most probably need to blend it in to the door, rear quarter, and piece behind the front wheel. If they have to do that, it was going to be $1107.88. If by some chance they only had to do that piece without the blending it would be $601.38. I am very apprehensive about having them blend in to other pannels after seeing so many cars after a few years where the blending discolors and it looks terrible.
The big white scratches were very noticeable. I decided to just fill it in with two stage touch up paint. Now you can't see it at all unless you happen to be laying on the ground next to the car. I just can't believe they wanted that much to fix it.
