In a previous post I asked if anyone had installed Rocker Rails. Found that quite a few have, and all praise the protection they give. But now I find that there are at least two different designs----Those from A & A (under $100), and those from other suppliers that also have tabs to serve as jacking points (nearly $300).
Does anyone have the upscale version----and is the cost increase worth it?
Since, with Andy's, you can jack anywhere on the rail, I don't see the jack point tabs doing much for you. But I may be wrong as I haven't decided yet either...

I have Andy's.
Basically when jacking, I put my jack in the location of where the jacking puck would be (or jack from the crossmembers). I took some red paint and marked on the rail where the pucks used to be to make it easy to see when looking under the car.
I never heard of the more expensive model/brand. That sounds like an awful lot of $$$ to me.

Having an upscale version seems kinda silly seeing as how it's going to messed up the first time a jack is put under it, or when you bottom out over some crazy tall speed bump. I wen't with the A&A rocker rail and bumper saver kit. A&A created the first rocker rail kit, it works well, and it's priced well.
The upscale units are from Mid America Motorworks. I dont have a link for them, but they are shown on page 5-44 in their C5 1997-2004 catalog. They are called Underguards---and they have huge tabs that cover the jacking ports so you do not need the pucks when jacking. But they are expensive---$289.99.
If no one on this forum has them, I wonder where their market is? Or are there those out there who dont want to admit they bought the upscale unit when the A & A unit will protect the rail---but not much help when jacking. Just wondering.
Mid America's biggest cost with that product was incurred in the price of putting in their catalog. The rest of the cost was in A&A developing the product and testing the waters, which Mid America basically ripped off and put some little tabs to differentiate them, and then tacked on another $200. With as easy and cheap as they are for any guy in a shop to make, I'm sure they'll make back all of thier money in 1-2 sales.
Anyway, if you have the Harbor Freight jack, you can use the frame rail right next to the jacking point, and without any special pucks. It's super easy. This seems difficult for you to picture, so if you want I'll go jack my car up right now and take a picture for you. Let me know. Just don't mind my ugly rockers...didn't always have these rocker rails, and then there was that hurricane incident...
I happened along on a set of the Mid America rails with the pads, they were new and never installed .. got them for 50 bucks at a garage sale,,yup, a garage sale....I thought about offering them less, but there was another guy looking at them talking to his wife about how he thought he could use them...I just grabbed them when he turned his back , laid the 50 bucks on the owner and smiled . I applied silicone to the tops of them and used a scissor jack to hold them in place and at the same time , jack the car up high enough to get my angle drill in place, drilled and tapped the holes and used ss allen head bolts. they fit great,, and work perfect. I would buy Andies and weld the tabs in place....the tabs are killer.....I still use a small piece of plywood to jack on, to help even out the load. The down side is you cant see that I polished them ...lol....plus you have to remove the pass side to get the inner fender piece off to get to the computer. That why when I installed my shift lite I found the correct wires at the dash, not the computer...damn , that was a long post...

I have jacked my car up numerous times all along the alluminum rails, they never bent or anything like that. Your wasting your money buying the expensive ones.
