It is a common problem. You most likely have a bad oil pressure sensor. You have to pull the intake manifold to change it out. It is fairly easy, just takes some time.

Sorry to tell you that Chiltons does not have a manual for a C5. The only real option is the 3 volume GM set. Check e-bay: you might be able to get them for under $100. I think they run around 120-140 from the suppliers to the left.
PS - I know it's not cheap, but it will be the best $ you will spend on your vette.
