Default Center Arm Rest

Am having trouble with opening the "between the seats" arm rest cover. A couple of weeks ago, it would "stick" in the process of opening it. Today, it won't open past about 3". I don't want to force it. Anyone have this experience. Have a 5 month old 2004 Cpe. Thanks.

It's a two-position hinge. Just lift up firmly - it'll open. Feels kinda strange until you get used to it.

Sometimes mine is a little harder to open than others. You can also try pulling the lid towards the driver's door and up at the same time.

It is normal for it to stop part way open - just go ahead and pull up and it will open all the way. Mine does the same thing.

Mine does the same thing, should open fine if you give it a little extra force. Also, put the e-brake down, or replace the handle with something a little more sleek. I've found mine tends to catch on the e-brake.

You might also try lubing the pivot/hinge points. There are instructions in tech tips!

I at first thought mine was stuck. Once you pull it hard enough it will open all the way and get easier the more you do it. Don't worry, it won't break.

NEVER force a mechanical device! The hinges have a composite action to them (two directions of travel). First, keep them properly lubricated and... Second, pull towards the driver slightly while lifting to help the hinges follow the second direction of travel. In this manner they work very smoothly without forcing anything and putting undue wear on the hinges.

Just my $.02,
Mike.

This baffled me when I bought my Vette in 99. I did not open it for a month in fear of breaking it. As stated, it has some sort of double hinge. as you are lifting up... pull it a little toward you causing the secondary hinge to unspring. It's a funky set up...but once you do this a few times you will have a better feel for how the spring set up works
