A message about "making a kid's day" from Daphne and related posts caused me to think about the good deeds we can do with Corvettes. I posted this as reply to her thread but thought I would share it with others. There are good deeds all of us could do who are Vette owners. Mine went like this:
My friend Michael (estimated age of 25) is a quadraplegic and runs his electric wheel chair by blowing in a tube. I'm amazed at how he can control his chair, especially running around the docks at our marina. One day I was at the marina cleaning bugs off the front of my C5 vert when he rolled up and began talking with me, including complimentary comments about my car. I asked if he wanted to go for a ride with me and he said "Sure"... so his father hoisted him from his chair to the passenger seat, buckled him in, and away we went. While rounding the first curve, Michael lost his balance and ended up leaning over the console. We both laughed as I propped him back up in his seat. We drove down to the beach, past the beach bunnies, volleyball players, and picnic'rs, and let the air blow through our hair as we zoomed down along the beach road. He seemed to have a great time, even though I had to prop him up one more time before we got back to the marina.
It made me think after that, that there are many people who will never be able to afford a Vette, or maybe just never have the ability to drive one. I'm happy that I was able to make Michael's day that day, and I hope to take him for more rides in the future. Perhaps many of you will get a chance to share such an experience also.
You did a great thing. Sometimes we forget how fortunate we are in our busy lives. I'm sure you made his day and that warm fuzzy feeling we get from doing a good thing doesn't hurt either.
