Oh, boy, this 0% business has had us out shopping for vettes. We were looking hard at a new one, but fell in love with a used one at the chevy dealer. What do you folks think of this...an 02, silver with shale interior, premium wheels, 10,000 miles, a coupe with two tops (clear and silver), 12 cd player, heads up display and more for $38,000? Still a year left on factory warranty. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Forum!
My guess is that the interior of the silver '02 coupe that you are looking at is light gray. The shale interiors have only been available in the 2003 Anniversary Edition and the 2004 Commemorative Edition coupes and verts. This link shows the interior and exterior colors available in 2002:
IMO, $38K is too much for the 2002 coupe. With the current incentives available on the 2004s, many of the Forum dealers here and others have been selling brand new loaded out 2004 coupes for about the same price. Problem is availability of the 2004s is dwindling. My recommendation is to keep looking and check the inventories and prices of some of the dealers here - Maxie Price, Kerbeck, Les Standford, Ken Fichtner, etc.
Thanks for the good info. Yep, you're right, the interior is gray, and a light gray. We're having a hard time getting a steal deal here in San Diego, and the cars that are left are not colors that we like. The blue book for a private is 35,800, price for retail listed in blue book is close to where we are at. Should we be expecting dealers to be selling more like a private seller?

Good advice.....Forum vendors are selling fully optioned '04 Coupes for around that price.

The Temecula Chevy dealer WAS advertising $11k off awhile ago. Bob Stall had some hot deals going also. Don't see them advertising now.
You should read the C5 For Sale section on Maxie Price and others who can sell you a c5 from another state and have it shipped. Selection is going fast or gone :-(
Got mine in late May at Mossy Chevy just because they had what I wanted (white/red) and was local.
$38K for a 02 c5 sounds outrageous. IMHO, $32K sounds more reasonable for a loaded one with decent miles. Seen base c5s advertised for $34.5-35K w/all of the rebates.
Also, here's a link to the C5 Corvettes For Sale section of the Forum that you might like to look at too. Most all the Forum dealers post in this section from time to time:
Should we be expecting dealers to be selling more like a private seller?
Not likely, they'll rather wholesale it out to another dealer or broker for a bit more rather than make a precedent. Or lots of dealers have other lots they can push the car to as well. Best bet, is the private route and look across the country. For me, got lucky, only had to drive about 250 miles for my Z I picked up last week. Good luck.
If you want Silver, check forum sponsor Kerbeck-dot-com. New, 2004 Silver is on their front page for $10k off MSRP. (Just under $35k.) Even if they ship it across the country, you'll still be brand new, and a couple of grand ahead of the used one locally.
They had $31K on the window, and a "special" mark down to 29K as they had A LOT of New and Used Vettes on the lot as well as a trailer parked on the street with like six of them loaded.
My wife is pure evil on earth when working a deal, while I'm more of the "I'm sorry I bothered you... just take my money and I'll leave."
They wanted 29k for the car, we paid $27K which included the car, 3/36,000 warranty, clear top (had to buy it), Tax, Docu, Licence fees. ( I think the car itself worked out to $23k).
Bob Stall has A LOT of vettes on a regular basis. I'd wait untill after the C6's start showing up, then see what they are willing to do for you on a C5 that's been taking up some valuable space on the lot.
I can't imagine the new C5s getting any lower than Kerbeck, Maxie, Les Stanford and a few others. Maybe some local dealers will begin to offer larger discounts than they normally do. I wonder how many C5s are selling per week??
I also think C5 used car prices will go up when the new ones are gone.

$38K sounds high to me. In St. Louis, they are advertising '04's (MSRP of about $48K) for $39.9K. You should be able to get them down more. But, consider what your cost of financing a used car will be over a new one with perhaps 0% interest.
If you buy used, check the Carfax first. (The dealer should be able to give you one, free of charge.)
ALSO, when I was searching for a Corvette, I found Carmax-dot-com to be a good resource to see pricing around the country for used Corvettes.
After months of research, a couple of subscriptions to Carfax and AutoChek, I was fortunate enough to buy a new Corvette. I just couldn't get past wondering if the used Corvettes I was looking at had already had the dog-water run out of them.
Researching, shopping and test-driving is loads of fun. But, seeing that baby in the garage is 24/7 fun! Buying a Corvette is an enjoyable process!
I don't think i'd pay more than $32k for an 02, regradless of the mileage, especially when u can get a new loaded coupe for $39k...It's a buyers market so take your time and you'll find a great car at a great price..
