Keep your right foot planted to the floor while shifting. You have to be very fast with the clutch and shifter. It is only advantageous if you have the proper traction to support it. It does subject the drivetrain to a lot of stress.

The rpms come up very fast, if you eventually miss a shift you will be sorry. I would do some practicing before you start bending your sodium filled valves. 1st through 5th are ready if you are.

The engine has a rev limiter. If you miss a shift you'll just bounce off the limiter.
Obviously that won't work if you accidentally do a 3-2 shift when you meant to do a 3-4.... but that's virtually impossible to do with a hurst.
Met a guy at an Autocross event that had the same 96 LT4 as me and was racing along the high way and shifted form 3rd to 2nd, he had to get a new engine
Not sure about all what happened mechanically, but it was shot. Easy mistake, I have done it as well but not at 70 mph (what speed he was going was around there).
Point being, don't let the car let you think you are a better driver than you are. Thats not meant as any kind of insult, I learned a while back that these cars are capable of out performing my driving skills. I think its a fair statement about most of us, without racing experience.

I wouldn't do it with a stock shifter. I am sure there are some on here that do but I would avoid it. Thats just asking for trouble. When I learned to do it I started at low rpm's. I would shift at around 3k with the gas at partial throttle. The more I felt comfortable with it the higher up I went. Now I do it at 6400. No problems yet. Kaley

Eventually it will wear and or crack the blocker rings in the trans and you will start grinding going into gear. I would stay away from doing into 5th being an overdrive and a little weaker.
However, if done properly you can gain .3/3mph in the 1/4 over a fast shift.
