Everytime I try to lock my door from the inside I push and push but it will not lock. This just started happening a week ago. After I push real hard it will lock. Is it just worn out and is this expensive to fix? 99 coupe. Thanks!
The door lock/window control buttons are a sealed unit with only a plug-in connector underneath for all of the controls.
Mine acted up once or twice and the best I could do was grease up the connectors...short of cutting it open. Cleaning and putting some lube on my connectors didn't help.
When it finally dies I'll just replace the whole unit from Fichtner Chevy.
I have a problem similar to yours. At random, both door locks sometimes operate and sometimes don't, with the key fobs, and with the door lock switch. It doesn't matter whether I'm trying to lock or unlock the doors. I hear the actuators, but don't see the locks themselves engage, or disengage. Assemblies and actuators have been replaced, to no avail.
Interestingly, I spoke to a friend of mine who is a Service and Parts director for GM, who just had the same thing happen with his truck. No fix had been discovered yet. Like I said, interesting...but sad.

As long as the problem is only the lock button, then it should not be that expensive to replace. If it is the lock actuator, then that is another story. The hardest part is getting the door panel off the car, but it can be done if you take your time. See instructions for removing the door panel on the Vette Essentials web site.
I was just reading the service manual. Turns out it's probably a short somewhere. Now, both my doors only sometimes lock and unlock on the first try, even with the door button!
