I'm guessing the smoke shade is the way I'll go. I just didn't want the "smoke" to mean gray instead of the black look I want. I also haven't seen many pics of vettes with blackouts. Please post if you have one...
I first bought CF turn signal covers for my MY car. They let to much light through, almost transparent. I sent them back for smoked ones. The smoked are darker.

That might just do it. I did put my front LP on this purcahse of my 04. Anyway the section in the Texas Transportation Code is 547.303 listed as color requirements: a lighting device or reflector mounted on the rear of a vehicle must reflect red.
