Scratched all the way to the glass on the right side from the front fender to the middle of the door. Got my first est. today, $900. Sounds high! They want to take off the fender, but it only has minor surface damage. They want to replace the BSM's. Sound right? Mike
I have asked around here and got the same responce. I guess I am showing my age as the price just sounded high to me. I just ordered the right side BSM from Bob at Fitchner and saved $50.00 over what I would have paid them. They are billing 17 hours labor, and say it will take the better part of the week. Bummer. I need to get a few more estimates if I use my Ins. co. but it looks like I will not be doing that unless this est. was too low. BTW the lumber yards cart that hit my car has no interest in what happened, anyone surprised? Mike
I had someone back up onto my front fascia, several scratches in a 5" x 10" area. Quote: $1500!! That is for repainting the whole front fascia and blending in with the hood and it'll take 4-5 days. I have magnetic red II paint which makes it more expensive, though.
I didn't see the damage untill I got home. Used NXT the night before so I touched the entire car, the lumber yard was the only place I went but I didn't call the police because I didn't see the damage where (I believe) it happened.
Plus they have to clear coat the entire panels not just the painted areas.
I thought they had to paint the whole panel, but like you already know they blend in the paint and clear the whole panel. Is this so the paint color will blend better or because it's cheaper than painting the whole panel? Mike

I think it is mainly because the the clear coat, being the last and outer most layer, can't be feathered in. You would be able to tell where they stopped. I don't think cost is so much a factor. You're right that they can blend in the paint layer.
I had rock chips done on my hood and they only painted the damaged area, but clear coated the whole hood. I can't even tell or remember where they did it now.
I had similar damage to my Corvette from a bike pedal through to the fiberglass, they fixed it for $675 in three days including replacing the BSM. Can't even tell that it was damaged now.
