PCV mod: any problems; catch can or CH moisture trap?
I am about to do the PCV mod on my '99 with 21K miles. I have absolutely no oil use problems, but want to prevent any carbon buildup.
Have any of you experienced any problems or downsides to doing this mod, and does the Campbell Hausfeld moisture trap work well? Does it restrict air flow at all?
Are any of you using the AMW (or other brand) catch cans?
Thanks
(Oh, I guess I should have posted this in the tech section. Oh well, I guess a mod will move it -- they always moved threads I didn't want moved! )
I have a AMW can,, works great so far, (less than 1000 miles) it does get oil in it. I do not use a oil fill breather, just the catch can, I am at 5 psi boost.....I like it better than the ch ones, but it does cost a lot more

If you use the Campbell Housfeld filter as I have, reverse the air flow direction. You want the crankcase fumes to pass thru the center, allowing the liquid oil to drip down and let the air exit the outer passage. Otherwise you will get the soda "straw effect" with an oil build up on the filter element and burb liquid oil back into the line towards the intake under vacuum.
I converted over to the Z06 PCV system recently in addition to my GReddy catch can. The catch can alone was quite effective but I wanted to give it the best chance of intercepting oil as possible. Here's the thread I posted on the conversion:
That's the one. I sent back a Greddy because it did not fit since the addition of the ATI. Also, I could not open it to verify some kind of filter system. The one pictured above does a nice job of wicking out the oil. The filter is fine enough yet free enough to breath. I only wish it was larger.
