I think the effect is less on a passenger side mirror, since you're much further from the mirror the light from cars behind you won't effect you as much so they don't waste unnecessary funds on doing it to that mirror.

OK, really stupid question here. How do you tell if you have the electchromatic mirrors? My rearview mirror has a lit green led. Is this it?
What do these things do anyway. I assume they automatically adjust to bright lights?
I bought my z used and it does not have the invoice or owners manual. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes, you have them. When they center green light is lit, it will automatically adjustt for glare from vehicles behind you. Supposedly, the drivers side miorror does as well, although I have yet to actually notice a difference on that one. (I only drive at night on my way home from work though, and at 2am, there isn't much traffic. So, who knows if it's really working or not...lol). Either way, a nice "creature-comfort" to have.
Yet another instance of someone not knowing what they are buying. It is in your best interest to learn about the car before you purchase it. That way there are no surprises later on. Plus when you take it in for service you can't be lied to because you will most likely know more about the car than the service tech.

Gee thanks Shylor for your input. Maybe you could slide down off your highhorse and answer the question. Better yet, just don't post if this is the best that your pathetic genious can come up with. This thread and most all others around here are to gather information, not to be insulted. I state this whether you are referring to my post or not.
My mirrors had to be replaced and I noticed while driving at night that the drivers side mirror and center rearview mirrors where both dimming as designed, but the passenger side mirror did not. Knowing now that the drivers side mirror cost $290 and the passenger side was $35, I think I know the answer. But, I still wanted to poll the vast amount of information here on the forum to get a quick and easy answer. Didn't think it would lead to some overly sensitive perfectionist type who thinks that because people don't spend 1000 hours researching a vehicle to the nth degree they aren't a qualified buyer or are ignorant.
I called a friend of mine that owns two Z06's with the ec mirrors and she can't remember noticing the difference either. I'll try the owners manual and see what it states when I get home from work today.
Thanks guys for the input and for coming to my defense. I was pretty sure I had it based on the mirror led and no toggle. My audi has this feature but the side mirrors are slightly tinted to help with glare so I thought it would be the same on the Vette.
Shylor, I am not ignorant on this car at all. When I did my buying research I was looiking into the important things. Engine, suspension, body condition and so forth. Electrochromatic mirrors were not prevelant on my mind. Just a nice thing to have. When I found my car it was fairly well moded. New intake, pads, crossed drilled and slotted rotors, 04 shocks, borla exhaust, xpipe, cags defeat and so forth. These were important to me. Sorry I don't know every nut an bolt on this car yet, but I thought I came to the right place to learn this.
I have the EC mirrors in my Z06 and I hate them. I turned them off immediately after buying my Corvette. I like to see everything around me and when the mirrors dim, all I can see is the headlights of the car directly behind me. This is especially true at dusk.
How does everyone else feel about EC mirrors -- like em or hate em.
I like them. That being said, the EC mirrors in my 99 Tahoe were much much better. The mirrors on the Tahoe turned a greenish color when active and didn't get as dark as the ones in my Z.
My intent was not to be insulting. Sorry if it came out that way. I'm just tired of people getting taken advantage of because they don't know what they are buying. In this day and age with internet access, every consumer should be very informed about their purchase. This means not getting surprises after the purchase. I guess it just frustrates me at how many people will buy a car and not know what they are getting. I also like to read the owners manual after buying a car, as it teaches me more about the car. The video is also very helpful.
So more times than not, I speak out when I should shut up. Sorry again.
Yeah, those mirrors are such deal breakers to me. I looked this info up in my owners manual and by reading what isn't listed there, I have determined that only the drivers side and center rearview mirrors are the EC variety.
Thus, the mystery to me is now solved.
I like em and think they work pretty good...altough I have never seen or used EC mirrors in another vehicle so no comparison..... I just know that when a lifted truck gets right behind me I can still actually see.....
I like them. I have had EC mirrors on my Tundra for a few years now.
they are great when you have been driving from hours after dark. AFter awhile, those lights in the rearview really start feeling like needles in my eyes.
