I just got my Valentine 1 radar locator and have mounted it to the left of the rear view mirror. Since I'm in sunny CA, the V1 is basically unprotected (only the factory tint between it and the sun) from sunlight. The thing gets seriously hot after a couple of hours in the sun!
Should I unmount it and put in the shade when I have to park in the sun?
I have never had a problem with the heat bothering my v1. I usually take mine off of the windsheild when i park because im more worried about someone running off with it than i am the heat.
IMO its a pretty expensive piece of equipment to leave hanging from the windshield for all to see

That is a concern for sure ... but like JasonFRC said ... it is up in the tinted area and you can't really see it from the outside, unless you're looking for it.
I just ordered mine yesterday, and while I was researching detectors, one of the things I came across was that the Valentine case was made from magnesium, making it impervious to heat, and the reason it costs $100 more. Don't remember the source of that info, but it came up in an article from a search engine. Hope it's correct. Think I'll call them, cause I too am concerned about both the theft and the heat.
I've had my V1 for almost 8 years I guess and that thing has baked in some serious Texas sun. I try to remove it from the windshield as much as possible.
Is there any particular reason why you don't feel comfortable with the published specs as laid out both on the Valentine web site and in your owner's manual?

I've two - one on the daily driver, never garaged, six years old, the other in the Vette behind the PASSENGER side of center mirror peeking just below the blue belt with rear antenna peaking out of the right edge of the mirror.
Both units have remotes that sit in the shade, and the daily driver remote died after two years.
After six years, the suction cups on the daily driver have dried out causing a unit drop about once/month... Time to hunt for those spare cups...
While we're on the subject, is everyone else picking up false laser alerts on GM SUV rear LEDs? What a pain at a stop light that can be since the falsing keeps dropping out and back in.
Irritating - I've got to rate this THREE acks...

V1 sells the suctions cups for almost nothing. I ordered a new lighter plug because I wanted the hidden lights and then had them toss in some new suction cups....
And yes I noticed my V1 going off over a year ago from Trailblazers and now other cars. It is annoying to say the least...
