Any GM dealer with the VIN should be able to run a history report on the car from you which will show the repairs and recalls/campaigns completed. However, I have my doubts as to what your dealer is telling you. See the following threads and especially replies by C-5 TECH:

I thought that the dealer fix for automatics was to remove the lock plate. If that's the case, your wheel should be able to turn without the key. Go give it a try.

Oops, I agree. Missed the part where ROJ#79 said he had an automatic.

I called my local Dealer today and they ordered the parts for Recal # 04006. That is suppose to fix the problem!
