I just bought my new LS1 last weekend. It's my first Corvette and I've been in love with them since the '63 Stingrays came out when I was just a little squirt!
This board seems to be a fne, civilized forum, so I'm really looking forward to adding and benefitting from many of the discussions.
I've only put about 50 miles on the car so far (I know, I know, I need to drive it! But work was a killer this week).
I did have two issues, but after doing a search and reading the results, it seems I only have one now. The first one was the issue of temperature. As luck would have it, there was a wreck on the Interstate as I was driving my new baby home from the dealership Monday. It was running great at about 200 or so, as I was varying the RPM a bit with the 6-speed to break it in correctly. (The car only had 6 miles on it when I started the trip.)
But then when the traffic snarled, sure enough, it started creeping up immediately, and would get to almost 230, then back to 220. I really started praying it wasn't happening, and apparrently, it wasn't. But it sure scared me! Also, the oil temperature pretty much stayed up around 230. It was a bit of consolation that these things come with Mobil 1.
I turned off the A/C and crept up inch by inch until it cleared up; then the came right back down again, and I turned the A/C back on. So now I know that's "Normal."
Second issue is that of sticky brake calipers. When I come to a stop, I notice that the car has a pretty strong resistance to rolling. I pushed it out of the garage into my driveway last night and golly, it's stiff. I seem to be able to hear the calipers dragging on the disks. Any opinions on whether that's normal for a new C5? Will they get looser in time, or should I jack it up and check each wheel at this point? For me, bringing it to the dealership would be a last resort, as I didn't even let 'em wash it. Thanks in advance for any input....

I can not comment on the brakes though that sounds odd.
Temperature is probably normal. Mine runs pretty cool but
did get up there the one time I got stuck in stop and
go traffic. I believe the second radiator fan does not come
on until the temperature reaches 230. Actually the air
conditioning turns the second fan on so the engine usually
runs cooler with it on.

You're in the right temp range for a stock setup. You should keep the A/C on in a traffic situation as the radiator fans will come on at a lower temp and help cooling. Your brake noise and drag is the need to bed the pads and rotors which with happen with normal driving. Some Guys have different proceedures for new brakes, but I'd go easy on them at first.

I'd give the breaks 500 miles to bed in then if it's still and issue have the dealer have a look at it.
And welcome to the forum. This is a great place to learn about your new ride.

Welcome to the forum Black LS1. Since I am in the New Orleans area (Slidell) I thought I would tell there are some pretty good Corvette Clubs in the Area. Check out the links below.

Same on my 2004. Temps ok and brakes will loosen as they break in. Remember no hard sudden stops fro the 500 mile break-in as well. Enjoy the car and rember to wave.

Thanks to all for all the advice and welcome's....
And to 95c4, thanks for the "head-up" on the Vette clubs! As soon as I catch my breath from work, the new car, and my body-off Buick GS restoration project, I'll look into it... but I won't forget to wave in the mean time!

To all who contributed, the brakes seem to be getting a bit looser. I probably should have looked more closely, but there's a pretty good amount of surface rust on the rotors. The car was invoiced and shipped on 6/29, according to the dealer invoce. How can I find out my "born on" date?
I'm sure this will wear smooth in a few good stops. But if the car was built, say, in mid-June, I'm surprised this much rust could form so soon. I wonder if the rotors have rust on them when they're installed....
BTW, Here's a pic after I washed it the first time:

Congrats and welcome.

The surface rust will wear off with use and you'll have smoother braking. Even new replacement rotors/pads need to be broken in. Turning the A/C on in traffic does work as both fans come on.

Now go out this weekend and start buying some mods and goodies.

the rotors will have surface rust on them when you wash the car, or it gets wet in the rain. The first time you stop, the rust will magically be gone. The temps sound right to me..

Thanks for the welcomes & congrats'es! Needless to say, I'm ecscatic with my new baby.
Noel, I'm kind of a glutton for punishment as far as those dark colors go. I bought a new black '89 'Stang 5.0 and I enjoyed every wash! And that was more or less my main driver. Fortunately for me (and my Vette), this won't be a daily driver.... I still have my Y2K F-150 Lariat Flareside for those duties. And that Deep Wedgewood Blue is another dark one that shows the dirt. Boy, when I wash that one, it's a day's work. But it, of course, will never see an automated car wash as long as I own it.
I'll be checking in regularly....

Kona, I didn't have signatures enabled before. Nice Vette! Of course they're all nice; but I do have a weakness for black.
BTW, I hope I don't get blasted for showing my other toys here in this forum, but since I'm still a newbie, I'm going to take a certain amount of editorial liberty. This was the toy I bought a couple months before my Vette. It's shown here in my garage during its first oil change by its new owner. As soon as I get my Buick back from the painter, my garage will be officially full!
